House Of The Dragon Sneakily Confirms One Velaryon Replacement With A Single Line

The premiere of House of the Dragon season 2 has snuck in some clever foreshadowing surrounding the future of House Velaryon. The devastating House of the Dragon season 1 ending saw Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys Velaryon, killed by Aemond, starting the Dance of the Dragons. While this event is widely known as being the catalyst for war, Luke’s death created more intricate issues that will play out throughout the remainder of the prequel series.

House Velaryon is one of the most powerful noble houses in House of the Dragon, but it was devastated by events in season 1. Lord Corlys built up his family in the years prior to the series, sailing the world and gathering wealth and notoriety. They have the most powerful navy in the world and, years prior to the Dance, had two dragonrider children in Laenor and Laena. However, with Laenor dying, House Velaryon has no direct lineage, with Lucerys Velaryon being the replacement heir despite being widely known as a bastard.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Sets Up Alyn Replacing Lucerys As Corlys’ Heir

Keep An Eye Out For Alyn Of Hull In Future Episodes

One of House of the Dragon season 2’s new characters is Alyn of Hull, who’s introduced in the season premiere as the man who pulled Lord Corlys out of the wreckage, saving his life in season 1. Corlys is indebted to him, which Alyn takes no interest in. However, Alyn does tell Corlys that he’s sorry for the loss of his heir, referring to Lucerys’ death and foreshadowing his own arc from Fire & Blood. In the book, Alyn is thought to be Laenor’s bastard, but the show has altered this to make him the bastard of Corlys Velaryon.

In House of the Dragon season 1’s ending, Daemon suggests that the Blacks summon potential riders to bond the unclaimed dragons on Dragonstone and Driftmark. Dragonseeds (bastards with Valyrian blood) are the candidates for this venture. While other dragonseeds will manage to claim dragons, Alyn fails at doing so, but he does end up becoming legitimized, making him the heir to Driftmark and House Velaryon. Season 2, episode 1, sets up this arc, though there will be some time before it comes to fruition.

What Happens To Alyn & When He Becomes Lord Of The Tides In House Of The Dragon

Alyn Of Hull Marries Baela Targaryen

Alyn inherits Driftmark and becomes Lord of the Tides in 132 AC, toward the end of the Dance of the Dragons. He ends up marrying Baela Targaryen, Daemon and Laena’s daughter, though this may not happen in House of the Dragon due to their age difference. Alyn has been made older in the TV series to adjust for him being Corlys’ son. Alyn then went on to carry on his father’s legacy by having his own great voyages, though this will likely occur after House of the Dragon’s timeline.
