Gibbs’ story at NCIS has a direct connection to the biggest tragedy in his life.

NCIS ’ brand new spinoff titled NCIS: Origins is still months away from landing on CBS later this year, but the upcoming show already has a huge potential to unveil mysterious details about Gibbs’ life that the original series never got to uncover.

Set to take its viewers back in time and start its run with Leroy Jethro Gibbs as an aspiring Special Agent, the spinoff will dive deeper into the character’s successful career path and, what’s even more important, his biggest drama.

Not so many details about NCIS: Origins’ plot line have been revealed so far, but its premise kinda confirmed that a major disheartening storyline will take place there after all.

Since the original series didn’t spill much tea about Gibbs’ past and his family, this is what NCIS: Origins now has to do. For years that NCIS has been airing on TV, fans have been craving for more details about the character’s first wife Shannon and their daughter Kelly who both were killed by a Mexican drug dealer.

At the time of their death, Gibbs was still working in the Marine Corps, but the tragic event made him shift his priorities since he wanted to carry out his own investigation and avenge his wife and daughter’s killer.

An agent that was tasked with investigating Shannon and Kelly’s murder was none other than Mike Franks who eventually led Gibbs to NCIS and gave him full access to his killed family’s case file.

It thus comes as something pretty clear that Gibbs’s new career start at NCIS will be directly linked to his personal big tragedy, which leaves no doubt that the upcoming show has no real choice but to feature Shannon and Kelly at some point, whether they would appear in Gibbs’ flashbacks or as visualizations unveiling the whole mystery kept from fans for years.

NCIS: Origins will hit CBS this fall.
