Bud Spencer never hid his admiration for the Hungarians! Just as we Hungarians love him, Bud Spencer loves us. In 2016, shortly before his death, the actor of Italian origin, also known as Piedone, did several things that showed how close the Hungarian people were to his heart.

Before he bowed his head to eternal sleep, the legendary Italian slapper made the contents of his website available in Hungarian to make it easier for us to adjust in the sea of literature. In addition, László Nemes Jeles congratulated him on his Oscar-winning work Son of Saul in a lovely message on Facebook.

“Good morning to my fans in Hungary and congratulations for the best foreign language film 2016!”

– wrote the then 86-year-old acting legend on the social media site, accompanied by the picture shown above.

That same evening, he delighted his Hungarian fan base with another lovely picture. In the recording, we can see a one-year-old girl sitting in front of the television and watching the 1981 film Kincs ami nila. Next to the picture, Bud Spencer wrote “Good night Fruzsina! Good night to my Hungarian Baby fan Fruzsina”, he wrote, pulling back the veil about how close he is to all age groups, and repeatedly made it obvious how much he loved Hungarians.

As he characterizes the local African samizda, “Jack Ormond is a tyrant who tramples the law and human rights. The kind who get power through bribery.” He also wants to bribe the two cousins, Tom and Slim, i.e. Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, but despite inviting them to a luxurious dinner, his knife breaks into them.

The role of Mr. Ormond, now legendary among Bud Spencer and Terence Hill fanatics, was played by none other than Hungarian-born Joe Bugner. The actor was born as József Kreul near Szeged, then left the country with his parents during the 1956 revolution. He became a famous boxer, entered the ring several times against Muhammad Ali, and later tried his hand at filming. He appeared alongside Spencer in Sheriff from the Sky, They Called Bulldozer and Goldilocks in Yucca, later in Street Fighter opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme, and for a while he was rumored to be Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
