There’s been a lot of twists and turns and surprises since Days of Our Lives’ Harris first ran into Ava in Bayview. Finding out Susan didn’t actually die in the car crash Ava caused wasn’t exactly the biggest surprise, but learning she was beaming psychic messages to Ava from London was a bit of a shocker!
The whole England angle, though, may have tipped longtime viewers off that Edmund P. Crumb was involved in Susan’s whereabouts somehow and, indeed, Days of Our Lives confirmed this with the psychic crumb message Ava received on the Wednesday, September 27 episode. (Don’t question it, just go with it.)
But don’t worry if you’re confused about who Edmund is or why Days showed us a wedding announcement between him and Susan (at the time played by Eileen Davidson).
In a nutshell, Adam Caine’s character Edmund is Susan’s husband. Or was the husband of Susan. When Susan was escaping from the DiMera clutches with tiny baby Elvis Jr., Marlena and John introduced them for the first time over in England. The two fell in love right away, but when word of their relationship reached Kristen, she abducted Susan and sold her into a harem while Edmund was away in London purchasing an engagement ring.
Penelope, Susan’s identical sibling, was mistakenly declared dead, and Kristen assumed Susan’s identity and wed Edmund as a result. But eventually, the real Susan got her freedom, got her love back, and got married to him for good. She then went back to England and lived happily ever after!
The couple’s final on-screen appearance occurred in 1998, and Susan didn’t return until after EJ “died” in 2014. Susan went into a tailspin after the death of her beloved Elvis Jr. She then asked Dr. Rolf to resurrect Will in order to exact revenge on Sami, which cost her the marriage to Edmund.
And that was the last we really heard of him, back in 2017 when she was living in Memphis with Elvis impersonator Roger and Will, who thought he was her son, EJ. We can kind of understand why Edmund wasn’t so into that whole arrangement.
But now he’s back and it looks like Ava and Harris will very shortly have a run-in with him that may finally explain what’s been going on with Susan!
