NCIS: Sydney season 2 is closer than ever and its latest trailer just revealed what is in store for its exciting sophomore season. The NCIS spinoff follows the unlikely collaboration between American NCIS special agents and Australian Federal Police officers on Australian soil. Not much has been revealed about NCIS: Sydney season 2 so far, but given the dramatic scenes shown in the latest trailers, it is set to be even more exciting than its first season with bigger threats and riskier missions.
NCIS: Sydney season 2 is set to continue from where season 1 ended, after the finale revealed a shocking cliffhanger involving the team’s superior officer, Rankin. While the finale left things uncertain for the NCIS: Sydney characters, the latest trailers via Global TV’s YouTube and Paramount Plus’ Australian Instagram show that the NCIS/AFP task force is back and stronger than ever. There were even certain scenes that were exclusively revealed through the trailers, increasing the anticipation for the new season.
Pirates Threaten The NCIS/AFP Team In Global TV’s Trailer
Much Of The Cast Dons Clothing From The 1700s
Perhaps the most exciting thing in the latest trailer via Global TV is NCIS: Sydney’s homage to Pirates of the Caribbean. In the clips, DeShawn (Sean Sagar) and Evie (Tuuli Narkle) are on a large ship dressed in clothing from the 1700s that seemingly matches the era that the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was set in. Evie seems to be being held hostage while surrounded by people dressed similarly to her. Surprisingly, Mackey (Olivia Swann) and JD (Todd Lasance) are not involved in the cosplay and instead seem to be trying to save the people on board.
There is no explanation for why only half the team is dressed as pirates, while the other half tries to save them. However, it seems as though Evie and DeShawn’s outfits are part of a performance that was perhaps overtaken by real pirates. In any case, the pirates in the trailer pose a very real threat, as one of the men shoots towards JD, who is in a much smaller boat with less coverage. NCIS: Sydney’s pirate case may be one of their most interesting ones yet.
Evie And DeShawn Almost Share A Romantic Moment In Global TV’s Trailer
DeShawn Saves Evie From Drowning
In the same clips involving pirates, Evie takes down the man shooting at JD by throwing him overboard. Unfortunately, this means that Evie falls in too. As Evie cannot swim, DeShawn quickly jumps in after them and saves her, even beginning the process of CPR and moving toward her to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Comically, at that exact moment, Evie spits out some water and asks DeShawn what he is doing, to which he replies, “Saving your life, again.”
DeShawn’s humorous reply references NCIS: Sydney season 1, episode 7, “Bunker Down,” when he and JD found Evie, Mackey, and Blue just in time after the three women were trapped in a room that was slowly losing oxygen. His response also highlights their lighthearted friendship which is slowly moving towards a romance. Since season 1, Evie and DeShawn have had a slow-burn romance, and their almost kiss in the Global TV trailer could have been their first shared romantic moment.
The Team Is Still Working Together In Global TV’s Trailer
Rankin Did Not Split Up The NCIS/AFP Team
Although the NCIS: Sydney season 2 trailer does not reveal much, it is clear that the NCIS/AFP team is still working together very closely. When the season 1 finale revealed that the team’s superior officer was somehow involved in JD’s son’s kidnapping, there were concerns that Rankin would use his power and influence to silence the team from revealing his connection. Rankin had already caused several problems for the team before his possible connection was revealed in the finale, so it is not impossible to assume he could have continued causing problems for the team in season 2.
With the team still working together in NCIS: Sydney season 2 and there being no reference to their boss at all in the trailer, this could mean that Rankin was fired. There is no easy way to explain how his phone number ended up associated with Yaroslav, Jack’s kidnapper. As a result, whatever explanation he has will probably not be good enough. Depending on his explanation, Rankin could also have been arrested for his involvement with Jack’s kidnapping. This means that there will need to be a new NCIS: Sydney villain in season 2.
The Team Is Threatened By A Terrorist In Global TV’s Trailer
There Seem To Be Bigger Threats Than In Season 1
Among the action-packed clips in the trailer, Mackey reveals that the team is “hunting this terrorist while trying to recapture a stolen missile and solve a double homicide.” Mackey’s stressful sentence seems to imply that NCIS: Sydney season 2 will be more dramatic than ever with bigger threats and riskier cases than season 1. While there is no insight into whom the terrorist could be or what their end goal is, the several chase scenes in the trailer reveal that it will not be easy to catch them.
The NCIS: Sydney team has solved stressful cases before, as season 1 featured a recurring season villain and several threats to the team’s lives. The team also faced their worst case yet: the kidnapping of someone very close to them. While the cases in the season 2 trailer may seem bigger, season 1 has set the team up with the encouragement needed to face any problem upfront. As a result, whatever cases happen in season 2, every agent and officer in NCIS: Sydney has the skill and experience needed to solve them safely and efficiently.
Mackey’s Navy Skills Save The Day In Global TV’s Trailer
Mackey Could Finally Reveal Her Backstory
A notable aspect in Global TV’s trailer is Mackey’s narration where she seems to be giving an encouraging pep talk to the team. As she speaks, there is a montage of different scenes from NCIS: Sydney season 2, so it is not clear when she reveals this monologue. However, Mackey’s speech seems to be coming from personal experience and could be her way of using her experience in the Navy to help give her team the needed motivation to tackle their toughest case yet.
Mackey’s experience in the Navy weighed on her.
NCIS: Sydney season 1 revealed that Mackey had a secret past, which could finally be disclosed in season 2. The one time she revealed more about herself was in NCIS: Sydney season 1, episode 4, “Ghosted,” when Mackey said that she disobeyed an order while on a mission, which resulted in the deaths of some of her colleagues. From that moment, it was clear that Mackey’s experience in the Navy weighed on her. Her speech in the trailer could be a teaser that she will reveal more about her past in season 2.
Mackey And JD Share A Romantic Moment In Paramount+’s Trailer
Their Close Encounter Is Brief
A second trailer released on Paramount+’s Australian Instagram page revealed some different scenes from NCIS: Sydney’s upcoming new season. One of the moments shown in Paramount Plus’ trailer that was not shown in Global TV’s clip is that JD and Mackey surprisingly share a brief romantic moment. While running away, Mackey falls and pushes JD down, landing on top of him. The two stare at each other in shock. Their reaction is reasonable since this is their closest encounter.
NCIS: Sydney season 1 set up Mackey and JD as friends who were slowly getting used to each other’s leadership styles. Their differing, and at times, clashing cultures also acted as an obstacle. Fortunately, they have gotten closer over time, and by the end of season 1, they were getting along very well. However, the Paramount+ trailer seems to be hinting that more might be in store for the two agents. They might not be the only slow-burn relationship in NCIS: Sydney.
An International Threat Looms Over Season 2 In Paramount+’s Trailer
Yaroslav’s Connections Could Be Seeking Revenge
Paramount+’s trailer also revealed that the NCIS/AFP team is faced with an international threat in season 2. During a montage of scenes, a mysterious woman says that there has been “A Russian sanctioned murder of a U.S. citizen on Australian soil.” Whether this is for a standalone case or whether it is part of an overarching plot is unclear at the moment, but it is certain that the international threat level is high and requires severe diplomacy.
The mention of Russia could mean that NCIS: Sydney season 2 carries a potential connection to Yaroslav, Jack’s kidnapper. While Ana killed Yaroslav in the season 1 finale, it was clear that Yaroslav had many connections. His colleagues could then be seeking revenge for his death. This would have the potential to cause a major international incident, which would explain the worrying montage in the trailer.
The Cases Require All Hands On Deck In Paramount+’s Trailer
A Clip Shows The Team Suited Up In Police Gear
One of the most dramatic moments in Paramount+’s trailer was seeing the NCIS/AFP team suited up in tactical gear. Given the sheer number of clips of the team in gear, it implies that season 2 might feature NCIS: Sydney’s most dangerous cases yet. A few clips also revealed that NCIS: Sydney’s Rosie and Blue would be just as involved in the case as their field-agent counterparts. Each case will require the work of all six members of the NCIS: Sydney team.
Mackey, JD, Evie, and DeShawn will likely continue to be on the front lines while Rosie and Blue work behind the scenes in the AFP laboratory.
The NCIS/AFP team usually works alone, and the season 2 trailer does not change that view. Mackey, JD, Evie, and DeShawn will likely continue to be on the front lines while Rosie and Blue work behind the scenes in the AFP laboratory. However, it is certain that each member of NCIS: Sydney is a vital component of the NCIS/AFP task force, as each member brings their own important skills to the team.
