Ncis Season 23 Update Teases What’S Next For Jimmy & Jessica’S Relationship: “There’S More There”

An update for NCIS season 23 has teased what’s next for one-time fan-favorite couple Jessica and Jimmy. NCIS is one of the longest-running network shows in TV history, and a CBS flagship show, and the NCIS franchise has continued to generate strong ratings due to its intriguing character dynamics. Among the best characters on the show are Jessica Knight and Jimmy Palmer, played by Katrina Law and Brian Dietzen, and the former couple had one of the show’s most popular relationships before their split in season 21.

Now, per TV Line, an exciting update for the show suggests that the upcoming new season of the military police procedural could explore what is next for Jimmy and Jessica. Showrunner Steven D. Binder discussed how there was more to come from the fan-favorite couple next season, without going into detail about what this might mean. Despite no Jess/Jimmy updates expected in the NCIS season 22 finale, viewers will be able to look forward to finding out more about the duo’s future next season.

“Another beat [in that story] doesn’t mean they’re back together again, because, while heartwarming and cute, that was not particularly dramatic. I think that’s why it ran its course. But yeah, there’s more there, for sure.”

What This Means For NCIS Season 23

More Jess & Jimmy Is Good, But It Needs To Feel Right

Exploring more stories about Jess and Jimmy as a couple, and what the future might hold for them, is great for the show, but it needs to feel organic. Keeping the former flames apart so far has worked very well, but there might be a temptation to force them back together during NCIS season 23. The couple split because of Jess’ departure for a career opportunity, but have admitted they continue to have feelings for one another, and this could make for plenty of friction over the course of the next season.

Ultimately, it seems likely that Jess and Jimmy are destined to reunite at some stage over the course of NCIS, provided both Law and Dietzen remain as part of the cast.

As two of the most beloved NCIS characters, Jess and Jimmy have many story arcs that can shape their characters, but their link to one another has always been one of the show’s most interesting dynamics. While the couple could reunite at some point, it feels like this might be a bit early, and the show keeping them apart is going to provide more drama for both characters in the near future. There is bound to be plenty of friction and “almost” moments for the pair in the upcoming season, but for now it is unclear what direction their story might take.

Our Take On Jess & Jimmy’s NCIS Future

The Show Should Keep Them Apart For Most Of The Season

Ultimately, it seems likely that Jess and Jimmy are destined to reunite at some stage over the course of NCIS, provided both Law and Dietzen remain as part of the cast. However, for the purposes of storytelling, and for the good of the show, I would like to see them kept apart for as long as is organically possible. The former couple rekindling their romance at the end of season 23 doesn’t feel unrealistic, but it would be great to see how well NCIS as a show can continue to evolve having the two of them apart for as long as possible.
