It’s looking like 2025 will be the Outlander franchise’s biggest yet, and I know exactly how it should end. During earlier seasons of the romantacy series, we could reliably expect a new installment every year. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes drew things out a bit. A couple of years passed before new episodes finally premiered, and Outlander season 7 even had to be split into two pieces (with a torturous wait in between). However, it seems our patience is being rewarded with non-stop Outlander.
Outlander season 7, part 2, premiered at the end of 2024 and wrapped up at the beginning of 2025, leaving audiences with an excellent cliffhanger to get us excited for the upcoming final season. Just a handful of months later, the spinoff series Outlander: Blood of My Blood is preparing for its big debut, with a premiere date of August 8, 2025. While we don’t yet have a premiere date for Outlander season 8, it’s expected to hit Starz near the end of 2025—likely beginning in November like season 7, part 2, did. It’s a whole year of endless Outlander that could only be made better by another spinoff reveal.

It’s The Perfect Time To Expand The Franchise
With so much Outlander in 2025, it certainly looks as if Starz is preparing to expand this franchise. The central series took a hit during COVID, but this year may be the test to determine whether viewership can be ramped back up again. If things go well, we can likely expect news about further Outlander stories to come.
Blood of My Blood is the first spinoff of the franchise and will explore the love stories of Jamie and Claire’s respective parents. However, there are far more stories within the fantasy universe that could be brought to the screen, and 2025 is the time to make them happen. If Outlander season 8 premieres in November like season 7, part 2, did, then the show’s final installment should be about halfway through by the New Year.
We could then say goodbye to Jamie and Claire’s central story while knowing that the bigger picture is still growing.
Between season 7, Blood of My Blood, and the start of season 8, Starz should have more than enough data to determine whether more spinoff ideas should be greenlit. This ultimately means that Outlander’s biggest year yet could be capped off with the announcement that more is on the way. This would be perfect, since we could then say goodbye to Jamie and Claire’s central story while knowing that the bigger picture is still growing. If this is all part of Starz’s plan, we could even expect to see the perfect spinoff set up by Outlander season 8.
The Outlander Books Have Already Established The Next Perfect Spinoff
Season 8 Is In The Perfect Position To Get Things Started
Author Diana Gabaldon has crafted a rather complete world in her Outlander books, and there are already a handful of spinoff stories in print. Outlander season 7 even set one of these up, since the novella The Space Between follows Joan MacKimmie and Michael Murray in France, an adventure Jamie and Claire made possible by working things out with Laoghaire. Additionally, the return of Master Raymond at the end of Outlander season 7 could have set up a spinoff following this mysterious character. Still, the perfect spinoff would have to be set up in the coming episodes.
Outlander season 8 will follow many of the events of Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, which leaves off on a cliffhanger for Lord John Grey’s character. This story, which includes Lord John being kidnapped by Captain Richardson (introduced in season 7), has yet to be resolved in the books, since Gabaldon’s A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out is not yet published. Still, Outlander season 8 could include this big cliffhanger. Rather than resolve the story itself, however, Starz could then announce a Lord John spinoff series.
If audiences watch Lord John get into trouble in Outlander season 8, they may be motivated to follow his story in a brand new series. A Lord John spinoff has been in talks at Starz for years, but it has yet to come to fruition. If non-stop Outlander in 2025 drives up the franchise’s viewership, however, this could finally change. Hopefully, this New Year’s Day, we can also celebrate the news of the perfect Outlander spinoff.
