Samuel L. Jackson is officially joining Taylor Sheridan’s ever-expanding TV crimeverse with a Tulsa King spin-off currently in development at Paramount+. The new series is titled NOLA King, and sources confirm it will be set in New Orleans with Jackson taking the lead. According to Variety, Jackson will make a guest appearance in the upcoming third season of Tulsa King, which is expected to lay the groundwork for his own series. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but insiders say Jackson’s character will share a similar criminal trajectory to Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight “The General” Manfredi — a big-time operator trying to rebuild his power in a new city after years away from the game.
While Stallone’s show focuses on Manfredi reinventing himself while in exile in the heart of Oklahoma, NOLA King will shift the tone to the Deep South — specifically the gritty, vibrant underworld of New Orleans. It’s not yet clear if Jackson’s character will cross paths with Manfredi again, but in the Sheridan universe, everything eventually connects.
The casting is another major get for Sheridan and Paramount+, who’ve already built a powerhouse roster of prestige stars across shows like Yellowstone, 1923, 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Landman. Now, Jackson — one of the most iconic actors in Hollywood — is bringing his voice, swagger, and commanding screen presence into the mix.
Why Is Samuel L. Jackson Joining a ‘Tulsa King’ Spin-Off?
Jackson is no stranger to hard-edged roles, despite his immense charisma. With the tone of Tulsa King, this should be a perfect fit. He earned an Oscar nomination for Pulp Fiction and has worked repeatedly with Quentin Tarantino on films like Jackie Brown, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. He’s also led major franchises from Star Wars to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he’s played Nick Fury for over a decade. On the small screen, Jackson most recently earned acclaim for The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey and Fight Night.
Sheridan, meanwhile, continues to prove he’s the reigning kingpin of prestige crime dramas. Tulsa King is currently filming its third season in Atlanta and Oklahoma, with Stallone returning as Manfredi. The series has remained a ratings hit for Paramount+, and the Jackson-led spin-off could give the franchise a shot of adrenaline — and a new city to rule.
