NCIS season 21 has been given the go ahead but when will the show return for the new episodes?
NCIS fans are eager to know when the police procedural will be back for season 21.

Despite several concerning indicators for the program in recent years, CBS approved the drama for a 21st season earlier this year. NCIS Hawaii has given the NCIS universe new life after NCIS New Orleans and NCIS Los Angeles ended after seven and fourteen episodes, respectively.

A new spin-off, NCIS Hawaii, will debut when the drama with an island state setting returns for a third season. With series 21 now in production, the total franchise is currently the third-longest-running US primetime drama series history, trailing only Law and Order and Law and Order SVU.

When will NCIS return for season 21 in the UK?

For the best part of 2023, Hollywood has had to contend with the writers’ and actors’ strikes which have meant the productions of shows and films have been put on hold. This included delaying work on NCIS as workers fought for new labour agreements and thankfully, the Writers Guild of America’s strike came to an end last month after negotiations.

Production on NCIS or any other show cannot really start, though, because the SAG-AFTRA strike is still going on. The comeback of the series had been planned for fall 2023 in the US, where NCIS premieres, but it is now more likely to happen in early-mid 2024.
Season 20 premiered on CBS in the US in September 2022, and four months later, in January 2023, the same show debuted on Disney+ in the UK.

If the program follows this same trend for release dates, then UK viewers won’t be able to see more of NCIS until at least the summer of next year if it premieres in the spring. Sadly, there won’t be anything new from the first season of NCIS to look forward to in 2023.

However, there is still hope for the fans because the next spin-off will shortly start. Next month, NCIS Sydney will premiere on CBS in the US and Paramount+ in the UK.

The show might be added to Disney+ given that the rest of the series is available there, but as it is the first international spin-off, this might not be the case.

NCIS Sydney will begin on Friday, November 10, starring the likes of Olivia Swann, Todd Lasance, Mavournee Hazel and Tuuli Narkle.

NCIS is available to watch on Disney+.
