How Many Episodes Of The Acolyte Are There & When Is The Finale?

Star Wars: The Acolyte only has a few more episodes left to unravel its mystery. As the first live-action Star Wars show set during the High Republic era – an era of the Star Wars timeline that takes place a few centuries before the Star Wars prequel trilogy – The Acolyte could both help answer questions about the Jedi Order’s fall and create an entirely new story that wasn’t intricately linked with previously established canon. So far, The Acolyte has produced a compelling mystery, complete with an anonymous Sith lord, numerous murdered Jedi, and a possible Force Dyad.

Unlike the Disney+ TV outings produced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which have mostly been forced to stick to six episodes per season, Star Wars’ TV shows have had a bit more freedom to play around with their episode count. Andor season 1, for instance, contained an impressive 12 episodes (and will produce another dozen episodes for season 2), The Mandalorian has traditionally had eight episodes, Obi-Wan Kenobi had six episodes, and The Book of Boba Fett had seven episodes in its single season. So, how many episodes of The Acolyte will there be in total?

There Are Eight Episodes Of The Acolyte

The Acolyte’s first season will include a total of eight episodes, which will, on average, be between 30–50 minutes long. Aside from the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, The Acolyte arguably has the most episodic structure of the Disney+ live-action Star Wars shows – so far, at least. Each episode focuses on one particular targeted Jedi or provides more backstory for the show’s primary characters, Mae and Osha (Amandla Stenberg).

When Will The Final Episode Of The Acolyte Air?

The Acolyte originally premiered on Tuesday, June 4 with two episodes: “Lost / Found” and “Revenge / Justice.” This was undoubtedly the right move, as these two episodes perfectly set up the larger conspiracy and gave audiences a chance to get to know both Osha and Mae in the present before diving into their tragic history. Since The Acolyte’s double premiere, Disney+ has released one episode a week, a trend that will continue until the season finale airs on Tuesday, July 16.

The Acolyte season 1 will tell a full, well-rounded, and emotionally cathartic story, with The Acolyte season 2 tying up some of the first season’s additional “narrative threads.”

Though this season contains a total of eight episodes, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the story will fully end there. Creator and showrunner Leslye Headland has previously teased that there are plans for The Acolyte season 2, though she also reassured viewers that The Acolyte season 1 will tell a full, well-rounded, and emotionally cathartic story, with The Acolyte season 2 tying up some of the first season’s additional “narrative threads.” For now, though, audiences will have to wait a few more weeks for Osha and Mae’s true story to reveal itself on Star Wars: The Acolyte.
