House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 7 Recap

& What To Expect From The Season 2 Finale

After a major setback at the Battle of Rook’s Rest in episode 4, House of the Dragon season 2 episode 7 saw the Blacks gain major headway in the war. The episode begins with Rhaenyra and Syrax confronting Seasmoke’s new rider, Addam of Hull, one of the bastard sons of Corlys Velaryon, and therefore the half-brother of her husband, Laenor, who formerly rode Seasmoke. Rhaenyra and Addam are confused about how he can claim Seasmoke, but nevertheless, he quickly pledges fealty to the Queen and her cause.

Afterward, Mysaria comes up with the idea that Targaryen bastards could be the key to claiming the remaining riderless dragons on Dragonstone, and Rhaenyra vows to build an “army of bastards” by calling out to Dragonseeds in King’s Landing. Ulf White and Hugh Hammer are among those who come forth and sail to Dragonstone. After the attempt appears to be as disastrous as Ser Steffon Darklyn’s, with Vermithor massacring many of the Targaryen bastards, Hugh is eventually able to claim Vermithor, and Ulf claims Silverwing.

With three more dragons on her side, Rhaenyra will finally be able to challenge Aemond and Vhagar and, in the season 2 finale trailer, she says they should strike soon while they have the advantage. Meanwhile, Aemond begins mounting his own counter-defense, telling Helaena that she needs to fly with her dragon, Dreamfyre, to battle. With shots of ships sailing and a burning castle, the trailer heavily suggests that one more battle, the Battle of the Gullet, could be coming before House of the Dragon season 2’s end.
