Outlander fans are scratching their heads over a major plot hole after a key storyline involving Claire Fraser’s adversary was seemingly dropped after a major twist

Fans of the hit Starz drama Outlander have been left scratching their heads over a major storyline involving one of Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitriona Balfe) main adversaries which seems to have vanished without a trace since season four.

The arc in question involves Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek), a fellow time-traveller with a mission to fulfil the Fraser prophecy, which foretells a Scottish king will eventually ascend the throne.

Geillis targets Claire’s daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton), born 200 years after her conception due to her mother’s time-travelling abilities, but fortunately fails in her endeavour.

Despite Geillis meeting her end in season three, fans are puzzled as to why the prophecy has not been mentioned since.

The prophecy reads: “When twice 1,200 moons have coursed, ‘tween man’s attack and woman’s curse, and when the issue is cut down, then will a Scotsman wear a crown.”

However, this seemingly crucial plot point from Outlander’s early seasons has not been referenced since Claire and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) relocated to North Carolina.
One perplexed fan took to Reddit to voice their confusion, writing: “So the last episode of season 3 Geillis wanted to go back through the stones to kill Brianna because she’s the 200-year-old baby or whatever.

“But I’m just starting episode 4 of season 4 and that has not been mentioned again.

“Does it come back or was it just like ‘wow this here this is a plot line’ and then it just died?”

Another viewer, who has also read Diana Gabaldon’s original books, clarified: “Claire killed Geillis in the cave.

“Brianna is now safe from Geillis. Ian, Jamie & Claire get away. Through a long series of events they end up in America. Result … end of storyline – beginning of next.”

With the American Revolution on their hands, Claire, Jamie and Young Ian Murray (John Bell) have had little time to ponder over old prophecies.

However, fans continue to speculate about what might have been, with one responding: “I keep wondering if it would have been more compelling if there was more ground to the connection from the death of Bree to the rising of the Scottish king.

“For me it was kind of random to believe that course of events just because a seer said so. Of course Geillis would believe it, the fanatic that she is. But the time from the revelation of the prophecy to it taking a full nosedive left me confused, if anything.”

The original poster responded: “It really did just come from absolutely nowhere I was so confused.”

While the storyline of Outlander has progressed, the midseason finale witnessed Claire and Jamie’s much-awaited return to Scotland, potentially setting the stage for the Fraser prophecy to resurface.

Additionally, it’s reported that actress Lotte is set to reprise her role as Geillis in the latter half of season seven, providing a chance for the series to address any unresolved plot points.

Outlander season 7, part 2 is set to premiere on Sunday, November 22 on Starz.
