After the Irish star declares ‘This show changed my life’ in a brilliant Instagram post, she’s flooded with messages from fans and co-stars including Sam Heughan and Sophie Skelton
Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe has posted an emotional “thank you message” on her Instagram account where she says portraying Claire Fraser “changed my life”.

Filming on the eighth and final season of the time-travelling drama wrapped a few weeks ago in Scotland, although fans still have plenty of viewing left with the second half of season 7 due to air worldwide from November 22.

Before being cast as the female lead in the Starz show, Caitriona, 45, was still trying to make her big breakthrough after a bold career switch from modelling to acting.

Now, more than 10 years later, she has received four Golden Globe nominations for her role in Outlander and starred in major films such as Belfast (which also won her a Golden Globe nod) and Ford v Ferrari.

Posting on Instagram on Saturday, Caitriona said: “How to capture a life ….? Thank you Claire, thank you @diana_gabaldon, thank you @rondmoore thank you @nightmaril @matthew_b_roberts @leftbankpictures @outlander_starz @sonypicturestv my partner in crime @samheughan … the rest of my Outlander cast and crew and …… mostly thank you …. To all the fans !!! Claire changed my life. This show changed my life. It’s impossible to put into words but the simplest thing to say to you all … THANK YOU.”

Co-star Sam Heughan replied: “We did it!!!” with three celebration emojis, while fellow Outlander actor Izzy Meikle declared: “You bloody legend” with a salute emoji. The official Outlander Starz account also responded, saying: “THANK YOU for being our Claire. And for being you.”

And Sophie Skelton, who plays Caitriona and Sam’s on-screen daughter Brianna Fraser, declared simply: “YOU LEGEND. We love you, leader lady!”

One fan replied: “Saying thank you for being Claire Fraser seems so inadequate a response in capturing how much your performance has meant to the fans. Portraying an extraordinary protagonist created by Diana and brought to life by you has been one of the greatest pleasures to watch since day one back in 2014. I, along with millions more, will never forget it. But here I go anyway and say, ‘Thank you, Caitríona.'”

The post was accompanied by a selection of photos showing Caitriona on set with her fellow cast and crew who have shared in the journey with her.
