After THAT revelation in tonight’s premiere episode of the CBS drama, is a romance rekindling in the works?

When it comes to Fire Country, there is one couple that everyone roots for to get back together. Well, it looks like there may be something brewing for season 3, thanks to Max Thieriot spilling a tiny bit of tea in regards to his character Bode Leone’s future relationships.

In the season 3 premiere episode, the show picked up right where the season 2 finale left off. Fans learned Gabriela Perez (Stephanie Arcila) actually never married her fiancé Diego Moreno (Rafael de la Fuente). While part of the reason turned out to be a helicopter crash that hit the church they were getting married in, the tense yet romantic conversation between her and Bode at the end of the episode implied there are still some feelings hidden beneath the surface.

What’s more, as Diego called Bode and Gabriela out for not telling him about their kiss at the campaign fire, the show is mapping out that there’s more to this love triangle than viewers saw back in season 2. As Max exclusively told Good Housekeeping ahead of the premiere, fans better get ready now that his character is out of prison. It seems there may be a shift in how Bode and Gabriela interact with fewer barriers between them.

“You know, they’ve been in this place where they can only really be together so much, right? There’s only so much they can do given the restraints and complications of Bode’s reality,” Max tells us. “We now have two people who are now facing totally different circumstances. I think we’re definitely going to play around with that throughout the season, and kind of go on this journey with them.”

Well, this is definitely an intriguing twist for the future of Fire Country! Given how Bode and Gabriela initially broke up due to him going back to jail and taking the blame for his prison mate’s drug dealing, it’ll be interesting to see how Bode and Gabriela’s relationship evolves without any shackles (physical or metaphorical) on him.

And if that wasn’t enough, Max noted one other key element to his character in Fire Country season 3. Viewers will get to see how Bode tries to reconcile this potential romantic relationship while also looking to continue his family’s succession by becoming a full-fledged civilian firefighter.

“As far as meeting a new Bode, we’re meeting a guy who’s now free and has a new sort of drive to chase this legacy of becoming a firefighter,” Max says. “He’s also someone that obviously in his heart, always had these feelings for Gabriela. While we see how motivated he can be, a big portion of his journey this season is what hurdles are in his way? Will they be firefighting hurdles or will they be relationship hurdles? It’s an integral part of the story, and we need to map it out the best we can.”

With all of this happening in just the first episode of Fire Country season 3, you best believe we’ll be watching next week to see what happens next!
