Outlander fans were left in hysterics after an awkward scene between two unlikely characters in the latest episode of the time-travelling drama.
Outlander enthusiasts were left in hysterics following a surprise twist in the show’s latest instalment, which saw a fan-favourite character make an unexpected comeback.
In the gripping seventh season’s tenth episode, Brotherly Love, viewers were treated to the dramatic reappearance of the fervent Geillis Duncan (played by Lotte Verbeek) long before her fateful encounter with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe).
As Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) desperately searches for his abducted son Jemmy (Blake Johnston-Miller) he accidentally travels back in time, landing years earlier than he planned and stumbles upon his own forebears.
Despite Roger and William ‘Buck’ MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh) making no progress in their quest to locate the young boy, the audience was given the opportunity to see Geillis’ first flirtatious interaction with Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish).
Before this encounter, however, Geillis makes an advance towards Roger, who is actually her descendant many times over, leading to a swift and awkward rejection from him.
This cringe-worthy exchange was recently posted on Outlander’s official Instagram account, sparking wild excitement among the show’s followers.
“The most uncomfortable few moments that Roger probably won’t soon forget,” one fan commented.
“Geillis Face At The End. PRICELESS,” another fan shouted out.
“This moment was hilarious, the narrations from Roger in these moments are too funny also,” chimed in another viewer.
A third fan shared: “Love, love, love Roger’s reaction and response. Hearing his thoughts just make these scenes!!”
“Such a weird moment but I’m loving this second half of S7!” yet another fan expressed.
And a final enthusiastic fan said: “I’m loving the comedy amongst all of the drama! One minute we are laughing and then the next we are crying!!”
The eagle-eyed viewer summarised the show’s appeal, as this episode also delivered a gut-wrenching turn for Claire in Philadelphia.
Obliged to depart Scotland to assist Lord John Grey (David Berry) and his sibling Henry Grey (Harry Jarvis), she is shell-shocked by the sombre revelation that her beloved Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) is reportedly lost at sea.
But will Jamie’s supposed death prove permanent?
Many viewers are sceptical, predicting he’ll reappear unscathed before long, especially as his remains have not been found.
Echoing the sentiments of many, a Reddit user declared: “I never believe they are dead until I see the death on screen.”
To which another responded: “And we’re talking about one of the two main characters.
“He’s not dying off screen in the 2nd episode of a new midseason… Very cheap and rushed cliffhanger imo.”
Despite the divergent opinions, legions of the series’ enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the continuation of the Frasers’ story this coming Friday.
