Kim Kardashian is getting her flowers online for acting in AHS: Delicate, but it’s not hitting for me.
Since it is now truly fall, a new season of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series American Horror Story is currently airing on FX. Delicate is the name of the current season, which stars several well-known actors from the past of the program. There are however some newbies as well, like Kim Kardashian. AHS: Delicate is here, however I’m not a big fan of Kim Kardashian’s performance. Delicate has only a few episodes, thus the overarching story is still being developed. But Siobhan Corbyn, who is related to Kim Kardashian, has received a lot of attention, and she has some seriously outrageous dialogue. I feel like an oddball because Twitter appears to be gushing about Kim’s acting abilities thus far. I just can’t get it to land.
To clarify, I’m not a hater of the Kardashian empire, and watch plenty of reality TV myself. And as such, Kim still has the ability to win me over as we get deeper into this season of American Horror Story. But right now there’s a disconnect for me.
Perhaps the reason is due to the wild dialogue of AHS: Delicate. Kim Kardashian has been going viral online as Siobhan because the character’s lines are so filthy and outrageous. Unfortunately, I haven’t felt like she’s portrayed up that loud personality, and is instead letting the screenplay do the heavy lifting.
Perhaps the sight of Kim Kardashian acting like someone other than Kim Kardashian causes cognitive dissonance. She has been appearing on television nonstop for years, and The Kardashians on Hulu keeps her in the news. So it’s odd to see her not eating salads and conversing with other business family members. The costume isn’t exactly aiding the change process because she has that recognizable contour and high fashion looks in the show. least of all, not yet.
All this being said, you can’t deny that the camera absolutely loves Kim. It’s hard to take your eye off her onscreen, even in the same frame as other actors like Emma Roberts. So if her character forces her to step out of her comfort zone later on in this season of American Horror Story, it could be her big debut as a real actress. Only time will tell, but I’ll be tuning in.
As was already established, there are several familiar faces within the cast of American Horror Story: Delicate. A number of series favorites, including Dennis O’Hare, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, and Zachary Quinto, co-star with Emma Roberts, who plays the lead. We’ll simply have to wait and watch how these individuals ultimately contribute to the beloved anthology series’ unfolding story.
