Claire’S Third Marriage In Outlander Will Weirdly Make Her Even Closer To Jamie

Claire’s on her way to her third marriage in Outlander season 7, though this will, oddly enough, make her even closer to Jamie. The ending of episode 10 saw Lord John Grey propose marriage following the devistating reveal that Jamie is presumed dead after his ship was lost. If Claire hopes to survive, she had no choice but to accept his hand—a rather familiar concept since this is precisely why she married Jamie back in Outlander season 1. However, while Claire’s second marriage pulled her further away from Frank Randall, her third allows for an even more intimate connection with Jamie.

In Outlander season 7, episode 10, Claire began to eagerly await Jamie’s return to the American colonies, while she herself cared for Lord John’s nephew, Henry. As she did so, Claire took on a temporary role as a rebel spy, passing on letters meant for figures like George Washington, among others. It’s for this reason that she became wanted by the Crown, and had she not been a guest of Lord John Grey, a loyalist, she would have been immediately arrested, tried, and hanged. However, shortly after news of Jamie’s apparent death in Outlander, season 7, Lord John determined that he and Claire must be married.

Claire Must Marry Lord John Grey In Outlander Season 7

Claire’s Outlander Season 1 Story Is Being Repeated

If Claire marries Lord John Grey in Outlander season 7, as the man himself proposed in episode 10, then his status will allow her crimes to be overlooked. It was clear that the soldier who came looking for Claire would be courteous of Lord John. So, just as it was necessary for Claire to marry Jamie back in Outlander season 1, she must now marry Lord John if she hopes to stay alive. Of course, even more pressing is the safety of the Hunters (Denzel and Rachel), Ian Murray, and Mercy Woodcock, all of whom would go down as rebels by Claire’s side if she refused to marry for a third time.

Of course, this marriage will be different from the last one. When Claire married Jamie, she had already reluctantly fallen in love with him. Once they were officially together, she lost the desire to return to Frank and became wholly invested in Jamie instead. As Outlander duplicates this story in season 7, it’s clear that history won’t be repeated in the same way. Jamie is Claire’s soulmate, and no amount of affection for Lord John could distract her from this. Moreover, the fact that Claire’s new husband is the legal father of Jamie’s biological son is a brand new dynamic in this marriage.

Claire’s Third Marriage Officially Makes Her William’s Stepmother

This Time Around, Claire Will Have A Piece Of Her Previous Husband With Her

With Jamie’s supposed death and Brianna off in the 20th century, William Ransom—Jamie’s biological son—will be the closest Claire has to her second husband. As Lord John’s wife, Claire will become William’s official stepmother, and this could be an interesting idea for Outlander to explore in the coming episodes. Claire and Lord John both love Jamie and mourn him in season 7. William will allow both to feel close to Jamie, though this becomes all the more complicated since the boy himself is unaware of his secret parentage. All of this will surely put a great deal of pressure on this very unconventional family of three.

How Outlander Season 7 Is Setting Up William Learning The Truth About Jamie

William’s Family Situation Will Become Even More Complicated

The truth about Jamie and William will surely become all the more painful for Claire and Lord John as Outlander season 7 continues. Mourning Jamie while the man’s son remains entirely unaware of what he lost will be difficult, especially for Claire. However, based on the events of the Outlander books, it won’t be long before William finds out the truth. Lord John, Claire, and William, becoming an odd sort of family sets this up, allowing for the tension around this big secret to grow even more intense before the big reveal finally happens—and Jamie makes his big return.

Regardless of how Outlander season 7 goes about this, Claire, Jamie, Lord John, and Willian are in for a lot of twists and turns moving forward.

The Outlander books dictate that Jamie Fraser is not, of course, actually dead. He will find his way back to Claire, learn that she married Lord John, and things will become far more complicated. This is about the time that William discovers the truth about Jamie, though it is bound to happen differently in the Outlander TV series (William recognized a resemblance in the books, but he has already met Jamie several times in the show). Regardless of how Outlander season 7 goes about this, Claire, Jamie, Lord John, and Willian are in for a lot of twists and turns moving forward.
