Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 Update Hints At How An Original CBS Character Exits

How a beloved character from the original CBS series will be written out is hinted at by a new Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 update. The Paramount+ revival will continue after the Behavioral Analysis Unit took down Sicarius’ serial killer network. When the BAU returns to the small screen, they will focus on cracking the mystery about Gold Star, which was set up in the season 1 finale. Not much is known about the idea thus far, but both Elias Voit and Tyler Green will be back, which means that the new case will continue to be tied to them.

There is no doubt that Emily Prentiss and her team will be all hands on deck for this new mystery, especially since it is connected to the reason for Deputy Director Bailey’s unexpected death. Beyond the case, however, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, will also deal with the personal lives of the profilers. This is one of the bigger changes coming from CBS to Paramount+, which is coupled with a change in storytelling format. The BAU’s stories aren’t dominated by what happens at work. Instead, it’s incorporated into their lives at home, which hasn’t been easy.

JJ’s Look Hints At Will’s Death In Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2

Will Had A Health Scare In Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1.

Things have been rough for JJ in Criminal Minds: Evolution. As an original cast member, she has seen a lot of tragedies during her time with the BAU. That said, she may be looking at one of, if not the biggest crisis of her life with the possible death of her husband, Will. As confirmed, Josh Stewart is exiting Criminal Minds after being a part of the franchise for years. No official detail has been revealed about how he will be written out, but a new Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 set video suggests that his exit will be tragic.

As seen in the video, JJ is wearing an all-black outfit, which she doesn’t usually do. This hints that she will be in a period of mourning at some point in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2. Couple that with her still wearing her wedding ring, and it backs up the idea that losing Will won’t be through a simple separation. JJ’s husband suffered a health scare in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1, but he came out of it unscathed. Sadly, show creator Erica Messer also previously said that it wasn’t the end of the family’s dilemma.

Will’s Death Will Be Detrimental To Criminal Minds’ Legacy

JJ And Will Have Been Criminal Minds’ Best Couple For Years.

Losing Will is sad, but it also has bigger ramifications for the franchise as a whole. His and JJ’s Criminal Minds: Evolution story is more important than one perceives because they are the only long-standing couple in the franchise. Every single BAU member doesn’t have a sustainable partnership outside of work. Derek Morgan had to leave the agency to prioritize his family, while others who didn’t, like Aaron Hotch and David Rossi, eventually lost their partners. This highlights just how difficult it is to maintain a relationship, let alone a marriage when someone is part of the BAU.

Granted that Will is likely dying because of illness, losing him will rob Criminal Minds: Evolution of the only happy marriage left on the show. It’s uncertain if his death is a stepping stone for a possible new arc for JJ, but as it is, it seems pointless. Unfortunately, it appears as if it is already set in stone.
