Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa has teased and unveiled a hair change.
The Fifteenth Doctor actor has been sporting a blonde look recently, though took to his Instagram Stories this week to reveal he was undergoing a transformation.
Posting a clip of himself in the salon chair with dye being applied, the actor and his stylist look tearful as Gatwa admits: “Be strong, be strong,” before the pair burst into laughter.
“Saying goodbye to the blonde is always a sad day,” Gatwa captioned the post.
The actor was later photographed on the red carpet at a London event with black hair.
Gatwa debuted his first season of Doctor Who earlier this year, and is preparing for a run on the London stage in the National Theatre’s revival of The Importance of Being Earnest.
The star will appear in the production alongside Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’s Hugh Skinner, Doctor Who co-stars Sharon D Clarke and Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ and Little Women’s Eliza Scanlen.
The show is set to run from November to January, though fans will be able to watch the show in cinemas from February as part of National Theatre Live.
Back in July, Gatwa was given his own waxwork model at Madame Tussauds, with the museum posting a video of the star reacting to his likeness.
“That is amazing!” he declared, later adding: “I just don’t know how you’ve done it. It’s so brilliant, it’s brilliant!”
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies was also in awe of the model, declaring: “You’ve so captured him. Not just the likeness, but the spirit is there. It’s shining out of him.”
Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
