Outlander star Sam Heughan looks unrecognizable in a throwback snap that he posted onto his Instagram story and talked about finally saying goodbye to the Starz series.
Sam Heughan, the Scottish heartthrob from Outlander, wowed his followers with a nostalgic snapshot revealing a completely different hairstyle—long, glossy strands that would give Justin Bieber’s locks a run for their money.
Taking to social media on Tuesday, the actor posted an old photo showing him much younger and sporting voluminous hair. The star of the hit Starz series known for his role as Jamie Fraser even made a witty comment about his own hairstyle on his Instagram story. “Sad to hear…but happy the straight hair is gone,” Sam joked, alluding to the cancellation of River City.
Outlander fans are on pins and needles waiting for the show’s return, as it gears up for its last hurrah before the beloved series concludes. The historical drama, which draws upon the widely-read novels by Diana Gabaldon, has amassed fans worldwide.
Sam has openly admitted he will struggle to leave the franchise behind, where he has worked closely with co-star Catriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser.
He’s shared with audiences that he feels there’s a ‘gap in his life’ now that filming for the final season, Season 8, has wrapped, reports the Daily Record.
During a sit-down in January with U.S. talk show host Jimmy Fallon, the Scotsman chatted about life post-Outlander.
Sam Heughan shared some heartfelt sentiments during his appearance with Jimmy Fallon, beginning with: “After 11 years and 101 episodes,” which garnered applause from the audience and the host.
He then mused, “I suppose it’s emotional, you know bittersweet?” prompting a response from Sam.
“Honestly I think the last year has been emotional. It’s been a real rollercoaster and I think there’s a huge gap in my life from that show,” Sam expressed, reflecting on his journey.
Discussing the end of an era, he elaborated: “But it’s been incredible. The friends I’ve made, the cast and crew it’s like family. You spend all your time with these people and how do you end something like that?”.
Humour also found its place in the conversation as Jimmy sought to uncover whether Sam snatched a keepsake from Outlander.
“I was going to steal a lot of s—” Sam quipped.
“They actually gifted me my kilt, my jerkin. I always had my eye on it and I said to myself ‘I’m going to steal this on the last day.’ I think they knew, and well guessed, that I was going to go for it,” he added.
Jimmy, puzzled, questioned the nature of the Jerkin.
Sam enlightened him, saying, “You all know what that is right? you wear it when you’re cold, it’s a British thing, a period jacket,” and ensured everyone was smiling.
In good humor, despite his earlier confusion, Jimmy remarked, “Nothing wrong with the Jerkin,” trying to smooth over his faux pas. “I’ll get you one next time I come on,” Sam jested in return.
Sam also shared that he kept his ginger wig and boots from the Outlander set, saying, “It’s all sitting in my house, so if I ever have a little Jamie Fraser in my life it would be like Superman or something.”
