TLF’s polygamist family fell apart right out of the gate say some viewers.
The polygamist Brown family was first introduced to viewers of TLC’s Sister Wives in season one. It sought to highlight the advantages of polygamy, under the direction of Kody and with the participation of his wives Meri, Janelle, and Christine. However, as the season went on and Robyn Brown was revealed to be Kody’s fourth wife, the dynamics of the group started to shift. Fans think that before the first season of the show’s episodes ended, Kody and Robyn committed their first “fraud” on her sister wives.

‘Sister Wives’ fans believe Kody and Robyn Brown conspired against Meri, Janelle, and Christine beginning in season 1

Fans of Sister Wives were aware of Kody Brown’s closeness to his new wife, Robyn Brown, throughout season 1. Some dismissed their relationship as the result of Robyn being their family’s first new wife in 16 years while others held the opinion that something more complicated was going on.

Robyn defended her right to Kody’s time while Meri, Janelle, and Christine acknowledged their feelings of jealously over the enormous amount of time Kody spent with Robyn to develop their connection. Since the beginning of their relationship, this caused resentment.

But some Sister Wives fans on Reddit believe that Kody and Robyn conspired against his three other wives halfway through the show’s first season on TLC. Here’s what they had to say about Kody admitting he picked Robyn’s gown after she took her soon-to-be sister wives dress shopping.

“Looking at Kody’s sadistic joy while wrecking the OG3 (especially Christine) by exposing that he and Robyn had perpetrated a fraud against them (re: The Wedding Dress debacle) and Robin’s duping delight,” one viewer wrote.

“I just watched this today. Robyn said something about how she told him not to tell them so that each shopping experience would be important. So essentially, she snuck off with him and wanted him to hide it. Sneaking with him and telling him to lie to his wives was not a great way to enter the family,” a second Reddit user claimed.

“Yes. 100% yes! She started s*** from the very beginning. Looks like she has a gleeful smirk as well at first,” wrote a third fan.

A series of personal missteps broke the Brown family of ‘Sister Wives’

The love between Kody Brown and his wife did not “multiply,” as he stated in the original opening titles, over the course of the show’s 18 seasons, as alleged by viewers. Their family eventually disintegrated. The family’s first error was leaving Utah for Las Vegas, which they said they did because they were being targeted by the government for practicing polygamy. The foundation of the plot was false, notwithstanding the Browns’ perception that they were being coerced by the government.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet previously reported it is rare for the Utah attorney general’s office to prosecute polygamists unless they are accused of additional crimes. A police report states that while it was acknowledged that Kody did practice bigamy, he was not associated with any crimes against his family members.

Moving to Vegas, the separation between the families took its toll. As they built and moved into homes on a cul-de-sac, Kody spent even more time with Robyn and her children. Upon the family’s third move to Flagstaff, AZ, Kody began to shift the amount of time he spent with his other wives and maintained a permanent residence at Robyn’s house. However, while Kody occasionally visited Christine, Janelle, and their children, he withdrew further from Meri.

Today, Kody is a monogamist, living exclusively with the one wife who’s ‘fundamentally loyal’

The Brown family, which appeared on TLC 18 seasons ago in an effort to demonstrate the benefits of polygamy, is now only a shell of what it once was. Now a monogamist, Kody Brown resides solely with Robyn Brown and their joint children. During a season 17 sit-down, Robyn Brown received praise from Kody for being “fundamentally loyal” to Janelle. The ex-polygamist wanted his women to act like Robyn so that he could run their households even though he barely saw them or their family. By doing so, he could be the head of their households.

Meri and Janelle decided they did not want to follow Kody’s patriarchal methods. Christine, who had already decided to leave the Brown family, as well as Janelle, who had grown weary of him portraying Robyn as the victim, found Kody’s remarks to be infuriating.

In 2021, Christine Brown left the clan. She will marry David Woolley this month and resides in Utah. After an intense argument that was depicted in season 18 of the show, Janelle Brown and Kody divorced in 2022; she is still a resident of Flagstaff. In 2023, Meri Brown also departed Kody and later settled in Utah.

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
