The Fire Country season 2 finale ended on a somber, yet hopeful note for Max Thieriot’s Bode, as the show planted the seeds for his season 3 plot (which is shaping up to be his best season yet). CBS’s action drama television series, created by Thieriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater, chronicles the California Conservation Camp Program, which features prisoners, like Bode, assisting the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (aka Cal Fire). Over the course of Fire Country’s two seasons, Bode endured several hardships as he strove to complete his prison sentence and achieve his freedom.
One of Bode’s most significant storylines in Fire Country season 2 centered around him pining for his ex-girlfriend Gabriela, who became engaged to a paramedic named Diego during the premiere. It was obvious throughout all ten episodes that Bode still had feelings for Gabriela, even though she was a fiancée, up until her wedding in the Fire Country season 2 finale. Nevertheless, how the last episode ended regarding Bode (and his tortured heart) perfectly sets up his character development and upcoming storylines in season 3.
Bode Had Countless Chances to Tell Gabriela How He Felt About Her In Fire Country
Bode Never Told Gabriela The Truth
Fire Country season 2 ended with Gabriela walking down the aisle to Diego and the couple getting married. The hour concluded without Bode expressing his feelings to his ex-girlfriend, and it appears as if it is too late for Bode to try to get back together with Gabriela. The window is now shut, and it’s hard to feel bad for Bode when he had numerous opportunities to act on his feelings throughout Fire Country season 2, just to run out of the chapel during the ceremony. So, when season 3 premieres, Bode has to move on from Gabriela (officially).
Bode initially went to the wedding intending to pull Gabriela aside before the ceremony to ask her to call off her nuptials (and be with him instead of Diego). He had built the courage to win Gabriela back once he became a free man in Fire Country season 2. But when Bode arrived, he couldn’t push away Manny’s remarks about his daughter’s happiness, and Bode backed down from his original pursuit. All Bode ever wanted was for Gabriela to be happy, and if she can’t find that with him, he has to accept that being with Diego gives her joy.
Gabriela & Diego’s Chemistry Is Undeniable
The Couple Is In Love & Got Married During The Fire Country Season 2 Finale
Although the entirety of Fire Country season 2 seemed to be building up to a scene featuring Bode confessing his love for Gabriela, that never happening makes much more sense. While Bode spent the ten episodes pining for his ex-girlfriend, the CBS action drama series was showing the audience why Gabriela and Diego make sense as a couple. Viewers empathized with Bode’s heartbreak but could also see why Gabriela should be with Diego, not Bode. So, it was ultimately for the best when Bode decided not to interrupt Gabriela and Diego’s wedding during the finale.
When Fire Country season 3 premieres, Gabriela and Diego should still be taking in the bliss from the nuptials, while Bode attempts to put his feelings for Gabriela behind him.
The ending of Fire Country season 2 featured all storylines coming full circle, especially with Gabriela and Diego getting married and Bode resigned to letting the ceremony happen. The couple’s chemistry was teased during the season 2 premiere, and even though their relationship progressed much faster than most romances on television, the audience could still understand why Gabriela and Diego were together. Consequently, when Fire Country season 3 premieres, Gabriela and Diego should still be taking in the bliss from the nuptials, while Bode attempts to put his feelings for Gabriela behind him.
Why Bode Needs To Look To The Future In Fire Country Season 3
Bode Must Move On From Gabriela
The season 2 finale ended with Bode rushing out of the church and running into Luke. He expressed to his uncle that now that he was a free man, Bode wanted to continue fighting fires because firefighting was the first “healthy addiction” in his life. So, Bode’s journey in Fire Country season 3 should feature him moving on from Gabriela and focusing on building a career as a firefighter. This new direction for Bode would ultimately be the only way for his character’s overarching Fire Country story to feel satisfying after he decided not to ruin the wedding.
