Gibbs’ Team Makes Me More Confident In Ncis: Origins Despite It Breaking A Spinoff Trend

Despite the fact that the upcoming NCIS: Origins breaks a common NCIS spinoff trend, Gibbs’ team in the spinoff gives me a sense of relief for the show. The latest NCIS spinoff will follow the career of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs before his time on the NCIS team. NCIS: Origins will still maintain the standard police procedural format that has made NCIS so popular but with a spin.

The spinoff is set to star Austin Stowell as the young Gibbs, and Gibbs’ team will shine the spotlight on young versions of known NCIS characters. NCIS: Origins will also feature characters that have not been mentioned in the NCIS universe yet, but that have been important to the career development of Gibbs, such as Lala Dominguez, who will be played by Mariel Molino. NCIS: Origins will be the first NCIS show to break a spinoff trend, but I am confident that Gibbs’ team will make up for it.

How NCIS: Origins Is Very Different From Every Previous NCIS Spinoff

NCIS: Origins Focuses On The Past

NCIS: Origins is different from other NCIS spinoffs because it focuses on the past. The premise of the show is to focus on Gibbs’ origin story and highlight Gibbs as the main character. Gibbs’ exit in NCIS season 19 came as a major shock, so this spinoff is giving a closer look at Gibbs in reference to his past. Not only am I completely invested in the idea of an NCIS show that focuses on one person, I think Gibbs is the perfect choice for that role.

Previous NCIS spinoffs focused on different locations of similar teams of NCIS special agents while following the same show format. While NCIS: Origins will also feature a team of agents and officers as they investigate various naval crimes, it will be different by focusing more on the early beginnings of NCIS and Gibbs’ career. Gibbs’ career in particular will start off at NIS before the agency was renamed NCIS.

I’m Glad NCIS: Origins Will Still Have Traditional Team Dynamics & Storylines, Despite Breaking New Ground

The Team Dynamics Will Be A Major Benefit For Young Gibbs

I am excited to watch NCIS: Origins focus on Gibbs and his past, but I am relieved that the show will still feature the traditional aspects of NCIS that have made the franchise so enjoyable. There is something about the combination of the banter between team members, the trust needed in each team, and the dramatic plots that make NCIS enticing. Even though NCIS: Origins is changing a major aspect of the show, there will still be a lot of familiarity in each episode.

I’m also looking forward to seeing how the show mixes in NCIS police procedural storylines with more personalized character arcs for Gibbs. Since Gibbs loses his family shortly before we see him appear in NCIS: Origins, the traditional team dynamics are needed more than ever to pull Austin Stowell’s Gibbs out of his darkness. Having a good team dynamic will not only help Gibbs, but it will also add some common NCIS characteristics to the new spinoff.
