Home and Away’s Nerida Mullins faces police questioning on UK screens next week, but there’s a catch.
Show newcomer DS Mark Townsend succumbs to pressure at work by summoning Nerida to the police station, but his colleague Rose Delaney remains infuriated by his approach.
Townsend, played by former Neighbours star Craig Hall, was brought in to investigate the brutal attack against Tim Russell at Lyrik’s rehearsal retreat.
Despite several clues pointing in Nerida’s direction, Townsend decided to focus on the possibility that Cash Newman attacked Tim.
Even when Cash experiences a flashback this week and finally recalls that Nerida was the attacker, he finds it impossible to convince the police to believe him.
Next week, Rose stands up to Townsend, as she believes he’s taking the wrong approach by focusing on one suspect above all others.
Townsend finally agrees to humour Rose and questions Nerida about what she knows regarding the case. However, continuing to make poor decisions, Townsend insists on questioning Nerida as a witness rather than a suspect.
Much to Rose’s frustration, Townsend takes a softball approach to the interview and fails to put Nerida under any real scrutiny over her past with Tim and the threats she’s been making.
When Nerida’s alibi holds strong, Townsend brings the interview to an early conclusion and blocks Rose’s attempts to ask more probing follow-up questions.
As Townsend remains convinced that he’s doing the right thing by pursuing his case against Cash, could Nerida get away with attempted murder?
