A couple of weeks before the House of the Dragon season 2 premiere, one season 1 star debuted her new series on Netflix, and it serves as the perfect replacement for the HBO show.

The fantasy drama, created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, is a prequel to the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones as it follows the events leading up to the “Dance of the Dragons,” aka the fall of House Targaryen. Some characters in House of the Dragon include Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra, Matt Smith as Daemon, Paddy Considine as Viserys, and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.

Season 1, partly based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood, was released in August 2022 and consisted of 10 episodes. Due to House of the Dragon’s record-breaking premiere on HBO, the network renewed the show for a second season shortly after episode 1 debuted. The fantasy drama also received high praise from critics and fans alike — it even received nine Emmy nominations. So, it’s safe to say that House of the Dragon has been a success for HBO, and it led to numerous opportunities for other actors, including Emily Carey, who played young Lady/Queen Alicent Hightower in season 1.

Netflix’s Geek Girl Is A Great Follow-Up Show To House Of The Dragon Season 1 For Emily Carey

Emily Carey Stars As Harriet In The Netflix Series

Following her run as young Alicent in House of the Dragon season 1, Emily Carey booked the leading role in Netflix’s Geek Girl. Although Carey only appeared in half of the HBO show, her performance as Alicent was highly praised, undoubtedly helping her get cast in Geek Girl, which has been trending on Netflix since its premiere on May 30, 2024. The British-Canadian comedy series is based on Holly Smale’s 2013 young adult book of the same name and revolves around Carey’s Harriet Manners, an awkward teenager who struggles to fit in until she gets scouted by a modeling agent.

Even though Emily Carey likely won’t reprise her role as young Alicent in House of the Dragon season 2, her future is still quite bright, thanks to Geek Girl.
Although House of the Dragon and Geek Girl are very different shows, the Netflix comedy is the perfect replacement for the HBO fantasy drama for Carey. It allows Carey to separate herself from her former dark and serious role as young Alicent, showing her diversity as an actress. Plus, she isn’t expected to return in House of the Dragon season 2, so, all eyes will be on Carey’s performance in Geek Girl on Netflix.

Geek Girl Gives Emily Carey A Bigger TV Future Than House Of The Dragon

Emily Carey Is The Main Star Of Geek Girl

Even though Emily Carey likely won’t reprise her role as young Alicent in House of the Dragon season 2, her future is still quite bright, thanks to Geek Girl. Unlike in the HBO series, Carey is the face of the Netflix comedy, meaning she could play Harriet for a long time (if Netflix renews it) or her starring role will lead to other opportunities. As a result, Geek Girl has provided Carey with a platform where she’s the star and main focus, whereas she was a mere supporting character in House of the Dragon.
