In The Series “Outlander”, There Is A Special Moment

Outlander season 7 revealed that little Faith Fraser may have come back to life, and we might have already seen the exact moment this happened nine years ago. Jamie and Claire’s first daughter, Faith, was stillborn back in Outlander season 2, and this has remained a particularly painful memory for the romantacy series’ main characters. Now, nine years after audiences watch this tragedy play out on screen, Claire has come to believe that Faith was somehow resurrected. Precisely how this could have happened is still unclear, but it will surely all go back to that fateful day in France.

Claire’s belief that Faith lived comes down to the appearance of Master Raymond in Outlander season 7’s finale, who apologized to Claire for something he did that she would soon learn about. Shortly after this, Claire heard Fanny Pocock singing the 20th-century song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” which she learned from her mother, Faith. Since Claire sang this song for her own stillborn daughter in Outlander season 2, she determines that Fanny’s Faith and Faith Fraser are one and the same. While it’s assumed that Master Raymond healed the baby, Outlander season 8 may have a more surprising answer.

Claire May Have Unknowingly Healed Faith When She Held Her In Outlander Season 2

Claire’s Healing Ability Is Related To Love

Though Outlander season 7 seems to imply that Master Raymond resurrected Faith similarly to how he healed Claire back in season 2, it’s difficult to see how this could be possible. Raymond had to sneak into the hospital to help Claire, and he urgently left again once she was healed to escape France and King Louix XV’s massive witch hunt. It makes no sense that he would make a stop to heal the baby but neglect to tell Claire. Instead, it’s possible that little Faith was resurrected unintentionally by none other than Claire herself.

Claire held Faith’s body for hours after her miscarriage. It was then that she sang the song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” which has served as a significant key in Outlander season 7. As Claire held her daughter and poured all her love into the infant, she might have unknowingly used her blue-light magic to coax the baby back to life. Claire’s feeble magic might have only created the subtlest spark in Faith’s little body. Then, when Master Raymond appeared later to heal Claire, their collective power might have spread to the baby, who drew her first breath.

1 Outlander Book Moment Explains How Claire Could Have Brought Faith Back

Claire Brings A Stillborn Baby Back To Life In The Outlander Books

Faith’s survival never happens in the Outlander books. Author Diana Gabaldon has explained that she considered a similar twist but ultimately decided against it. However, there is another moment in Gabaldon’s ninth Outlander book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, that could establish a canon precedent for Claire unknowingly bringing Faith back to life while she held her in season 2.

There is another moment in Gabaldon’s ninth Outlander book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, that could establish a canon precedent for Claire unknowingly bringing Faith back to life while she held her in season 2.

In the Outlander books, Claire actually did bring a stillborn baby back using her powers. This happened after she and Jamie returned to Fraser’s Ridge with Fanny, and Claire delivered a set of twins. One of the infants didn’t make it, but Claire held the baby’s body close to her as she remembered the horrible pain of losing Faith. As she did this (and Jamie wrapped his arms around his wife and the baby), Claire began to sense a park of life within the child. She then drew from her love for Jamie and their physical connection to strengthen the baby’s life force.

This book moment may or may not play out in Outlander season 8. It’s possible that, instead, the new episodes of the romantacy series will take the general situation and retroactively apply it to Faith instead. It would be a surprising twist that would take both book and TV audiences by surprise, all the while still using the foundation of Gabaldon’s canon story.

Claire Healing Faith Still Leaves A Big Outlander Question Unanswered

There’s A Lot To Uncover In Outlander Season 8

Claire learning that she herself had healed Faith would be an impactful moment in Outlander season 8, but this alone wouldn’t answer all our biggest questions. One way or another, the coming episodes will have to reveal what happened to Faith after she was healed. Mother Hildegarde named, baptized and buried the baby, and Jamie and Claire later went and visited the child’s grave. If Claire unknowingly brought Faith back to life, why wouldn’t the nuns have brought the crying child to her mother, exclaiming that there had been a miracle?

This is the same question, more or less, that stands if Master Raymond was the one who saved baby Faith. It makes no sense that he would keep the infant from her mother unless he had some larger plan at work that made it necessary for Faith to grow up elsewhere. Ultimately, revealing how Faith was brought back from death will only be the first step for Outlander unraveling this mystery—but if this step involves Claire’s own powers, it would undoubtedly be even more intriguing.
