NCIS Origins is on the way to the UK, giving fans an insight into the early days of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ career.
NCIS Origins has already made waves in the US, and now it’s time for UK fans to delve into the backstory of Agent Gibbs.
NCIS remains one of the longest-running scripted TV shows, and while Agent Gibbs (portrayed by Mark Harmon) may no longer be part of the CBS police procedural, his character was instrumental in the show’s success.
After leading the Washington team for an impressive 19 seasons before relocating to Alaska, his absence has been keenly felt by fans.
So the announcement of a Gibbs prequel was met with enthusiasm, and the series is now set to premiere in the UK.
NCIS Origins UK release date
NCIS Origins was released in America on Monday, October 14, and now, five months later, the prequel is set to launch in the UK.
The series, which delves into Gibbs’ past, will debut its first two episodes on Thursday, March 13, on Paramount+.
Following this, the remaining 16 episodes will be released weekly on the streaming platform until the grand finale on Thursday, July 3.
NCIS Origins cast
The cast of NCIS Origins features Austin Stowell in the role of a young Gibbs, with the actor best known for his roles in films such as Catch-22, The Hating Game, Bridge of Spies, Dolphin Tale, and Whiplash.
Kyle Schmid, remembered for his work in Copper, Six, and Being Human, will portray the younger version of Gibbs’ boss and team leader Special Agent Mike Franks, a role originally played by Muse Watson.
The cast of NCIS Origins is bolstered by the addition of Promised Land’s Mariel Molino as Agent Lala Dominguez, The Blacklist’s Diany Rodriguez in the role of Special Agent Vera Strickland, and The Chi’s Tyla Abercrumbie portraying Officer Mary Jo Sullivan.
It has been confirmed that while Mark Harmon may not be a regular presence on the show, he lends his voice as the narrator and makes a brief appearance in the first episode.
NCIS Origins plot
Set in 1991, NCIS Origins follows Gibbs as he joins the Naval Investigative Service at Camp Pendleton after his time in the Marines.
Under the guidance of mentor Mike Franks, he becomes part of a team that includes former Marine Special Agent Dominguez and Special Agent Strickland.
The series delves into the aftermath of the murder of Gibbs’ wife and daughter by Pedro Hernandez, depicting his adjustment to life without his family.
Moreover, NCIS Origins showcases Gibbs finding “his place on a gritty, ragtag team”, shedding light on how he established his renowned rules and evolved into the leader cherished by fans since the inception of NCIS in 2003.
