NCIS: Sydney will include Easter eggs to the original series and nods to the overall franchise as the new spinoff premieres November 14 on CBS.
NCIS: Sydney, the most recent NCIS spinoff, will have references to both the main series and the entire franchise. The summer writers’ strike forced broadcast networks to alter their schedules, which led to the decision to transfer NCIS: Sydney to CBS. One of those modifications was to keep the long-standing NCIS custom of premiering the Sydney spinoff on CBS rather than on streaming services. The new spinoff will make references to the whole NCIS franchise in addition to carrying the NCIS brand.
In an interview with TVLine to promote NCIS: Sydney, which debuts November 14 and will also be available to stream on Paramount+, series creator Morgan O’Neill was asked whether there would be references to other NCIS shows. O’Neill confirmed there would be, specifically mentioning Easter eggs. Read the full response below:
There are a few tiny Easter eggs there, as you can see. They are undoubtedly there, but I won’t give anything away. This show feels like a universe rather than a collection of individual shows, which is one of the things that I believe viewers adore about it. And while each of them has its unique DNA, I believe that the way CBS built this franchise was incredibly savvy in that they avoided producing the same episode more than once. The mothership, the first episode of the show, is substantially dissimilar from L.A.
What To Expect From NCIS: Sydney
NCIS: Sydney highlights “the brilliant and eclectic” combination of American NCIS Agents and the Australian Federal Police while focusing on escalating international tensions in the Indo-Pacific. It demonstrates how they came to be a part of a multinational task team to prevent maritime crimes in the most disputed ocean region on the planet.
An ensemble cast is featured in NCIS: Sydney. Sergeant Jim “JD” Dempsey is portrayed by Todd Lasance. Along with William McInnes as AFP Forensic Pathologist Dr. Roy Penrose, Tuuli Narkle as AFP Liaison Officer Constable Evie Cooper, Mavournee Hazel as AFP Forensic Scientist Bluebird ‘Blue’ Gleeson, and Sean Sagar as NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson, he makes an appearance.
Although writers’ rooms have reopened with the WGA strike officially over, the actors’ strike remains as SAG-AFTRA continues to negotiate a fairer contract with studios and streamers. NCIS: Sydney may be in a good position to succeed, as it’s one of the relatively few new scripted originals that will be airing on broadcast TV for months. That success could lead to an eventual spinoff with the other NCIS shows.
