Even though Outlander is still on hiatus, it’s a great time to be a fan of the series — especially after a long year of waiting for substantial updates. Based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling Outlander book series, the Starz series centers on Claire Randall (the Emmy-nominated Caitríona Balfe), a former World War II military nurse in Scotland who is suddenly transported back to 1743. In the past, Claire falls in love with a Highland warrior, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), but Outlander is about much more than its core romance, as Claire finds herself embroiled in political and social uprisings.
Since 2014, Outlander has churned through seven seasons — sort of. Outlander season 7, part 1, which takes inspiration from Gabaldon’s An Echo in the Bone, premiered its first 8-episode batch in June 2023. After the eighth episode aired in August of last year, the show went radio silent, due in large part to the dual Hollywood strikes that unfolded in fall 2023. Like most other TV productions, Outlander season 7, part 2’s production timeline was derailed, leaving a much larger gap between half seasons than planned. However, the tides are finally turning in terms of exciting Outlander news.
Outlander Season 7, Part 2 Is Finally Moving Closer To Release – And Has New Images
The Series Will Return With 8 Additional Episodes
As fans eagerly anticipate the continuation of Outlander season 7, part 1’s ending, they can take comfort in the fact that the season’s second batch of episodes will be premiering soon. Currently, part 2’s as-of-yet-untitled episode 9 is slated for release on November 22, 2024. Released in mid-July 2024, new images from Outlander season 7, part 2 have begun to tease what’s in store for Claire and Jamie’s relationship in the historical fantasy drama’s penultimate outing, which is partially set against the thrilling-yet-dangerous backdrop of the American Revolutionary War.
As the Starz hit hurtles toward Outlander season 8, and its long-awaited series finale, every episode and storyline matters…
The new photos, which don’t feature Claire and Jamie together, suggest that the couple’s stories may stand apart for at least part of Outlander season 7’s final episodes. Instead of being featured together, Claire and Jamie are shown in scenes with other characters, like Ian (John Bell) and Lord John Grey (David Berry). One photo from the series’ 1970s era shows Brianna (Sophie Skelton), Claire’s daughter, speaking with police officers, likely about her son’s kidnapping. As the Starz hit hurtles toward Outlander season 8, and its long-awaited series finale, every episode and storyline matters more than ever before.
Outlander’s Prequel Also Has Exciting New Images
Outlander: Blood Of My Blood Centers On Claire & Jamie’s Parents
Set even earlier in the Outlander timeline, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is another time-hopping love story. The prequel is set to intertwine two love stories — one from 18th-century Scotland and another from World War I England. In a twist, the first love story will be about Jamie’s parents (Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy), while the second will feature Claire’s parents (Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine). Like its parent series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood released new images that tease these dual romances. The 10-episode Starz prequel will likely air after Outlander season 7, part 2.
What The Future Of Outlander Looks Like
Outlander Was Renewed For A Final Season
While it’s unclear if Outlander: Blood of My Blood will, somehow, help set the stakes for Outlander season 8, it is clear that the franchise has many more stories left to tell. Even though Claire and Jamie’s tale will come to an end in the eighth and final season of Outlander, the potential success of Blood of My Blood could help set the stage for future spin-offs, prequels, and sequels within the Outlander universe. For now, fans shouldn’t get too bogged down in what comes after season 8, as the near-future of Outlander looks incredibly exciting.
Outlanderseason 7, part 2 will premiere on Starz on November 22, 2024, while Outlander: Blood of My Blood has yet to receive an official release date.
