Outlander fans have again shared their devastation over one heartbreaking plot twist from season seven, part two.
The epic seventh season was split in half with two blocks of eight episodes each, with the latter part seeing a momentous return to Scotland.
Many old faces once again cropped in the show including Geillis Duncan (played by Lotte Verbeek), Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish), Joan MacKimmie (Layla Burns), Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson) and Old Ian Murray (Steven Cree).
The official Outlander account recently paid tribute to all the cast members who returned for season seven by uploading a selection of character snaps.
The post was captioned: “What a treat it was to see these characters again, bodily threats to Jamie Fraser and extreme heartbreak notwithstanding (Laoghaire, Ian, you know what you did). #Outlander.”
Outlander fans quickly rushed to the comments section to share their mutual heartbreak over the death of Old Ian, who sadly perished in the most recent outing.
One viewer wrote: “Ian Murray breaks my heart EVERY SCENE!!”, with a person replying underneath: “yes I like him too [sic].”
Another audience member said: “I loved Ian’s role and wish he had a bigger part in the series.”
A third posted: “Ian Murray you will always be loved!”
Ian died while holding his dear friend Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) hand and was surrounded by his family in Lallybroch.
Young Ian (John Bell) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) were also at Ian’s side as he took his last breath.
Along with the comments about Ian’s demise, there were also plenty of remarks about the new Jenny Fraser (Kristin Atherton) with some lamenting original actress Laura Donnelly for being unavailable to return to Outlander.
One person said: “No hate to the new Jenny, she’s great! But I miss the old Jenny.”
A second added: “It was great to see Geillis, Dougal, Laoghaire and Ian I just wish Laura Donnelly could have ended her role with this episode.”
A third asked: “Why was Jamie’s sister played by a different actress and not Laura Donnelly?”, with another poster obliging an answer: “Laura was on Broadway at the time and schedules conflicted.”
Donnelly has been in demand since her role in Outlander and has starred in various projects including Sky’s Britannia, Tolkien, The Nevers on HBO, The Heist Before Christmas and Say Nothing.
IMDb also has her listed to be starring in the TV series Sugar, so it appears the star very much booked and busy and unable to return to Outlander.
