Outlander Is Running Out Of Time To Solve Its Forgotten Fraser Prophecy Mystery

Outlander is quickly approaching its ending, so there’s only so much time to answer an intriguing prophecy from season 3. This mysterious prediction was why Geillis attempted to travel through time to murder Brianna in the 20th century, though Claire put a definitive stop to this plot. Since then, the supposed importance of a 200-year-old baby has been essentially forgotten. It would be unfortunate for Outlander to drop this plotline entirely, but there isn’t much time left to squeeze in a satisfying resolution. Still, the direction of season 7 could hint toward the return of the Fraser prophecy sometime soon.

The Outlander TV show’s version of the Fraser prophecy was made by a woman named Margaret in season 3 after time traveler Geillis Duncan satisfied the need for a “seer” to hold three sapphires. Margaret foretold that “when twice 1,200 moons have coursed, ‘tween man’s attack and woman’s curse, and when the issue is cut down, then will a Scotsman wear a crown.” In plain language, this means that a Scotsman would again rule once a baby born 200 years after its conception is killed. Geillis decided that this must be Brianna, who was conceived in the 18th century but born in the 20th—but that’s as far as Outlander took it.

Outlander Has Only One More Season To Clear Up The Fraser Prophecy

This Plotline Has Been Ignored Since Outlander Season 3

Outlander will be ending with season 8, which means there isn’t much time to dive into the full meaning and implications of the Fraser prophecy. The series has revolved heavily around the Jacobite movement, which aimed to put a Scot back on the throne. The Battle of Culloden was pivotal in Claire, Jamie, and Brianna’s stories, and the Jacobite gold has now plagued the safety of Brianna and Ian’s families. Given all this, it seems that the Fraser prophecy would come back into play, but there has been no word since Claire killed Geillis in Outlander season 3.

The Outlander Books Still Haven’t Answered The Fraser Prophecy

Brianna’s Book Story Has Started To Bring This Idea Back

Even Outlander book fans haven’t gotten a definitive answer regarding how the Fraser prophecy would affect the overarching story. Of course, the prophecy is significantly different on the page than on the screen. While the Outlander TV show made specific reference to a 200-year-old baby, the third Outlander book, Voyager, made mention of a prophecy made by the Brahan Seer, who believed that the new Scottish ruler would be a descendent of the Frasers of Lovat. This is, of course, why Brianna was in danger since she comes from the line of Jamie’s grandfather, Simon Fraser, Lord of Lovat.

Like the show, this is about all that has been revealed in the Outlander books. Gabaldon still has one more novel on the way that will end the series, and it’s assumed that the Fraser prophecy will play a continued part. However, this won’t be released until after Outlander season 8, which has had to forge its own path toward a series conclusion. Still, Gabaldon has brought up the prophecy in some of her later books, especially in relation to Brianna’s story in the 20th century. Since this is about where the Outlander series currently has this character, it may come into play in the coming episodes.

How Outlander Season 7 May Set Up The End Of This Mystery

There’s Still A Chance The Outlander Show Will Bring The Fraser Prophecy Back

In the Outlander books, Brianna finds a letter from her adoptive father, Frank, around the time that Jemmy was kidnapped by Rob Cameron. It explained that she may find herself at the center of conspiracies since there are those who might think she is the answer to the Fraser prophecy. In this version of the story, it’s believed that Brianna herself could be the future Scottish ruler. Of course, this wouldn’t be how things would shake out in the Outlander TV show, but the timing here could indicate that the Fraser prophecy will again come into play.

Outlander season 7 sees the aftermath of Jemmy’s kidnapping, which means Brianna could end up finding that letter from Frank.

Outlander season 7 sees the aftermath of Jemmy’s kidnapping, which means Brianna could end up finding that letter from Frank. In this version of the story, he would likely be warning her that she may be considered the 200-year-old baby and that her life could be in danger. What’s more, Outlander season 7 has brought back Geillis Duncan, which could prove a problem for Brianna as well. Regardless, if this fantasy series is going to provide some answers regarding the Fraser prophecy, it better get on it quickly.
