Outlander Season 8 Is Coming – Here’S What We Know

After ten epic years, Outlander is finally coming to an end with an eighth and final season.

Saying goodbye to our favourite time travelling Scots will certainly be bittersweet. Over the past decade, we’ve watched Claire and Jamie (Sam Heughan) fall in love across two timelines (the 1940s and 1740s) all against the beautiful backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. To put it bluntly, we absolutely need more of their epic love story. And thankfully, we will be getting one final instalment.

Here’s everything we know about Outlander season 8, including the cast, release date, plot and more.

Outlander season 8 plot

We don’t know exactly what the eighth season will be about, but we do know that this season will be our last. Unfortunately for us, this means that the show will be finishing before the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon does — in other words, the show will have to find its own ending that will, presumably, be a little different to the ending of the novels.
Based on the ninth book (and what’s been happening in season 7) we can guess that the eighth season will deal with the fast-approaching Revolutionary War.

Outlander season 8 cast

Fear not — Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are definitely coming back to see out the story of Jamie and Claire. You can also look forward to seeing more of Sophie Skelton’s Brianna and Richard Rankin’s Roger.

A few new cast members will also be joining the cast. Kieran Bew will play retired British soldier Captain Charles Cunningham, while Frances Tomelty has been cast as his mother, Elspeth Cunningham. Carla Woodcock is confirmed to be joining as Amaranthus Grey.

Outlander season 8 release date

We don’t know yet! However, the season has already finished filming as of September 2024.

What else do we know about Outlander season 8?

Not a lot! As we ought to have expected, the cast are being very careful about spoilers.

“You’re going to have to wait [like the] rest of us,” Heughan told TVLive when asked about season 8. “Droughtlander, I promise will be over, but there’s so much for you to binge and go back on and watch all the previous seasons.”

He added, “I promise you Season 8 is not going to be easy and it’s not going to disappoint.”
