Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in Outlander, issued a stern warning to fans.
Outlander actor Sam Heughan has been forced to take to social media once more to warn his fans about the dangers of online scamming.
The Starz favourite, who portrays Jamie Fraser in the historical fantasy show alongside Claire Fraser star Caitriona Balfe, has previously had to issue similar urgent warnings.
On Instagram, Sam shared the important update with his 4.4 million followers, reminding them of the dangers fraudsters can pose.
Sam, who recently celebrated his 45th birthday on April 30, issued a statement surrounded by lovehearts to his Instagram story.
The warning to his fans read: “Please be careful on social media! Myself (or manager/agent/family/etc) will NEVER reach out asking for money or contact.
“If it’s not verified, it’s not me. Be careful of scammers!” he concluded with a red heart emoji.
It comes after Sam had to warn fans to “be careful” in November of last year ahead of Outlander’s return for the second part of season 7.
At the time, he told them: “Please be careful on social media. So many scammers.
“I will never reach out or message on Instagram/Twitter/WhatsApp/Google hangout/etc Or ask for money.
“If it’s not verified it’s not me,” he added. “No[r] will my agent/family/publicist etc… Or Telegram!”
He went on to call out a fraudster who was using the name ‘Sabrina’, sharing their scamming message, which read: “Hello, It is an honor to reach out to you on behalf of Sir Sam Heughan, who has personally recognized your exceptional dedication and enthusiasm as a fan.
“As a gesture of his sincere appreciation for your unwavering support, he is extending to you a rare and meaningful opportunity to engage in a personal dialogue with him.”
The message went on to ask the sender to act “as soon as possible”, which is a classic scamming tactic.
It ended: “Thank you for your longstanding support, which means so much to both Sir Sam Heughan and the entire team.” (sic)
The actor screenshotted the message with the word “FAKE” and a red cross over the top of it, before adding: “And not very bright…”
Outlander is set to return for its eighth and final season, though a release date is yet to be announced.
In the meantime, however, fans can look forward to the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which follows the love story of Jamie’s parents, Brian and Ellen, and Claire’s parents, Henry and Julia.
Outlander author Diana Gabaldon also revealed the title of her final book earlier this week, sharing that the 10th novel in the romantic drama series will be called A Blessing For A Warrior Going Out.
