Faith Fraser will be a key part of Outlander’s final series

Outlander’s producers have opened up about season eight, teasing the final outing of the hit Starz series.

In a new interview, Outlander’s showrunner Matthew B. Roberts and executive producer Maril Davis opened up about the season seven bombshell twist involving Faith Fraser which will follow through into the last series.

Roberts teased there was more to Claire Fraser’s (played by Caitríona Balfe) baby loss and subsequent healing by Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) than audiences may have realised.

He said there was “something mysteriously magical and mystical about that moment that you don’t understand”, suggesting fans would be finding out more in season eight about what really happened with Faith.

Roberts went on to cryptically tell TV Insider: “I think a lot of these things that happen in Outlander are constructed by destiny…

“So if there’s magic in Faith and there’s magic in that story, then we’ll see what happens.”

Roberts’ words suggest viewers could see more magic and mysticism involved in the final season.

While Davis said the colour blue represented healing and suggested a re-watch would reveal “things we’ve dropped in here or there”, hinting the season two episode Faith could hold clues about the upcoming eighth season.

Even season seven featured blue with Claire donning a shawl as she rose from her bed and opened a window, reflecting the flight of blue heron in series two episode Faith.

The makers have previously said they are taking the show in a different direction to the source material.

Diana Gabaldon also suggested the storyline could follow an alternate timeline in which Master Raymond spirited a deceased Faith to another era and revived the child, so she would live but without her mother and father.

This year marks the ninth anniversary of Outlander’s devastating baby loss story in season two.

The plot, taken straight from Gabaldon’s Dragonfly in Amber, showed Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire changed irrevocably by the death of their first child Faith.

Fans have already been wildly speculating about the plot line and if Fanny Pocock’s (Florrie May Wilkinson) mother Faith could be Jamie and Claire’s child.

Moreover, some have been suggesting the upcoming Outlander: Blood of My Blood prequel series could be linked to the Faith storyline with speculation that Claire’s mother Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) could be connected somehow.

Starz has yet to confirm when Outlander season eight will be premiering, but production has wrapped on the show suggesting also the principle filming is done and it could now simply be a case of editing.

Season seven, part two aired earlier this year and Blood of My Blood will be coming out in August, therefore it’s likely the last outing will be hitting screens either at the end of 2025 or in 2026.
