Caitríona Balfe has revealed that Outlander fans are set to get a ‘satisfying’ conclusion to the series upon the release of season eight as she details the ’emotional’ filming experienceCaitríona Balfe has spoken about the highly-anticipated eighth and final season of Outlander as she teases what could be in store for her character and the rest of the cast.
The Irish actress plays Claire Randall, the lead star of the hit series who time travels back from the 20th to the 18th century, when she meets and marries highland warrior Jaime Fraser, played by Sam Heughan. Based on the beloved novels by Diana Gabaldon, the drama series has followed the Frasers for more than a decade and across continents from Scotland to France and the American colonies.
However, the upcoming season brings an end to the series and Caitríon has said that while “there’s a lot of loose ends that are (sort of) tied up” she vowed fans will get a “satisfying” ending.
The actress made the comments while speaking with CBR on a tour promoting The Amateur, a techno revenge spy thriller by director James Hawes in which she stars alongside Rami Malek.
When asked whether her character would demonstrate any more of her magical abilities in season eight, Caitríona told the outlet: “I don’t know what I can say, or somebody swoops in and kills me.”
But she was able to give some vague details, adding: “I think, I think that we see more of the relationships maybe, maybe that’s I think there’s a lot of loose ends that get sort of tied up, and I hope that those are kind of satisfying conclusions for people.”
Caitríona revealed the season was a particularly emotional one to film. She continued: “I think it was such an emotional season to film, and there were so many goodbyes to places and people that we loved and that we’ve loved for so long. You know?
“I just really hope that it’s satisfying tribute to our fans, because we would never have been on air for that long without them, and they’ve they’ve been so incredible and stuck with us for so long. So, my hope is that they’re happy at the end.”
The final season of Outlander is anticipated to premiere on Starz in late 2025. The final run will consist of 10 episodes and while filming has wrapped an official release date has not yet been set.
Prior to its release, a prequel titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set to come out this summer.
