Outlander season 7 saw Jamie and Claire brought back together yet again, but the next big reunion of the series will be so much better. This Starz fantasy has hinged on Jamie and Claire being separated and reunited, with the star-crossed-lovers angle brought in around every turn. It seems this couple is constantly having to fight against fate, time, and space to be together, and this has made the moments that they are finally back in each other’s arms all the more meaningful. However, as this same storyline in Outlander gets a little worn out, another big reunion will serve as the emotional backbone of the series.
In Outlander season 7, Claire and Jamie were once again separated when the former returned to the American Colonies without her husband. The news that Jamie had been lost at sea was a bit exhausting to audiences since it would clearly only be a matter of time before he popped out of the woodwork, alive and well. Sure enough, Outlander season 7, episode 11 saw Jamie return, and it was most certainly a dramatic reunion. Still, as much as these two have been separated and brought back together, this didn’t mean as much as it once did. Brianna and Claire’s upcoming reunion will be a different story.
Brianna & Roger Will Return To The 18th Century In Outlander
A Big Reunion Is On The Way
Brianna and Roger have been in the 20th century for several years now, but the Outlander books dictate that they will return to the 18th century to be reunited with Jamie and Claire. In Outlander season 7, a man named Rob Cameron kidnapped Brianna and Roger’s son, Jemmy, with the goal of finding the hidden Jacobite gold. After getting Jemmy back, things will only get more dangerous for the MacKenzies in the 20th century, and they will ultimately determine that they will be safer if they make the return trip to the past. Naturally, this will result in one of the more heartwarming reunions of the Outlander series.
Jamie & Claire Haven’t Seen Brianna & Roger Since Mandy Was First Born
Claire Will Be Thrilled To Meet Her Granddaughter After All These Years
Jamie and Claire were reunited after being separated for only a couple of months in Outlander season 7—relatively short compared to their past stints apart. This, combined with the fact that they have had dozens of such reunions in Outlander, significantly diminished the impact of the moment. Jamie and Claire being reunited with Brianna, Roger, and their children, on the other hand, will be a much bigger deal. The MacKenzies traveled to the 20th century when their daughter Mandy was just born, and as of Outlander season 7, the girl is about five or six years old.
While Brianna has had the letters her parents left for her, Jamie and Claire have had no way of knowing whether their daughter and her family are okay. They don’t even know if little Mandy survived the surgical procedure that she traveled forward in time to receive. So, the moment this family is all brought back together on screen will be full of emotion. Jamie and Claire really don’t know their granddaughter, and being reunited with Jemmy, Brianna, and Roger will be equally as huge. This is a moment to look forward to in Outlander—much more than another Jamie and Claire reunion.
Outlander Season 8 Will Have To Forge A New Path For Brianna & Roger’s Story
Brianna & Roger’s Ending Is Undetermined
While the Outlander books reveal that Brianna and Roger return to the 18th century, the ending of their stories has not yet been written. Author Diana Gabaldon hasn’t completed her book series, and both she and Outlander’s showrunners have confirmed that season 8 will have a different ending than the upcoming novels. So, while Brianna and Roger’s stories may be on a particular trajectory in the books, their adventures might not go the same way in the TV show. Ultimately, this means that just about anything is possible as Outlander approaches its final season.
It can be assumed that the Outlander series will bring Roger and Brianna back to the past, as in the books, and that a heartwarming reunion will be seen on screen. From there, we can hope that the show will continue the plotlines that got their start in earlier episodes. Brianna is meant to be key in the “200-year-old baby” prophecy, and her children’s psychic connection and deep understanding of time travel should also come into play. There may be a powerful ending on the way for these Outlander characters. For now, however, an exciting reunion is the next big step.
