Outlander star Sam Heughan has revealed he and Caitriona Balfe have argued over their first moments together on screen

Outlander’s Sam Heughan has revealed that he and co-star Caitriona Balfe have had disagreements over their first scene together on the hit Starz series. The show, which began in 2014, follows World War II nurse Claire Randall (played by Caitriona) who is transported back to 18th Century Scotland where she meets Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Their relationship unfolds with a series of intense and passionate moments leading up to their marriage. Caitriona was cast 11 years ago, on September 11, 2013, and the show’s official Instagram account recently shared an interview clip to mark this milestone.

In the video, Sam confesses that they can’t recall their first-ever scene together. “The first day ever working with Caitriona Balfe,” Sam reflects.

“We sort of discussed… shall I say discussed? We’ve argued over what was the first day and we should find out.”

Both actors have different memories of their first scene together, each believing it was a separate yet significant moment for Claire and Jamie’s early relationship. “I feel like it was Jamie’s dislocated shoulder,” Sam remembered.

“But it could be on horseback in the rain.”

Recalling Caitriona’s first moments on set, he added: “I just remember her being thrown into this crazy world. But we just got on really well. And I guess we’ve said it before, but I think, you know, the relationship really started there for them, but also for us.

“We hadn’t really spent much time together. You’ll see not only Claire and Jamie’s relationship grow but also mine and Caitriona’s relationship grow as well,” Sam added, delighting fans with a glimpse into his off-screen bond with co-star Caitriona Balfe.

Viewers were quick to express their love for the on-screen couple, with one fan gushing: “The most perfect Claire we ever could have asked for.”

Another viewer lamented: “I can’t believe these relationships are coming to an end soon. I just can’t take it!!”

A third emotional fan added: “She was the perfect choice in every way. Happy cast anniversary Caitriona. And @samheughan please, stop making us cry.”

Sadly, the adventures of Claire and Jamie will conclude with the forthcoming eighth season.

However, fans can look forward to more episodes in season seven later this year, as well as a new spin-off, Blood of My Blood, which will delve into the backstory of Claire and Jamie’s parents.
