Quentin Lambert Beauchamp or ‘Uncle Lamb’ raised Claire Fraser
The Droughtlander may be in full swing, but fans of Outlander can look forward to a bit of respite this summer with the arrival of prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The new show is set years before the original series and will explore two distinct time periods.
The narrative will centre around Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) mother and father in the early 18th century in the Scottish Highlands, and his wife Claire’s (Caitríona Balfe) parents’ lives during World War I in London. Viewers are eager to learn more about the origins of Claire’s parents and unravel some of the enigmas surrounding time travel.
Throughout Outlander, the rules of time travel and supernatural abilities have been left somewhat vague. However, one thing has remained consistent: these powers are passed down through generations, suggesting that Claire’s parents must have possessed them.
Furthermore, it’s possible that Claire’s guardian Quentin Lambert Beauchamp or ‘Uncle Lamb’ (Prentis Hancock), also had these time-travelling abilities as he was a Beauchamp. After the death of his brother and sister-in-law in 1923, Uncle Lamb raised Claire with the assistance of his Persian manservant Firouz.
Initially, he planned to send her to boarding school, but after she refused, archaeologist Uncle Lamb took Claire on his various worldwide digs, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
Claire and Uncle Lamb journeyed across continents, from South America to the Middle East. She became accustomed to sleeping in tents and living without modern conveniences and luxuries, which is why adapting to life with Jamie wasn’t a big leap for her.
Uncle Lamb lived long enough to see Claire marry her historian husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), having essentially introduced the couple through his work. Tragically, Uncle Lamb died in the Blitz while delivering a lecture at the British Museum.
In reality, the British Museum was bombed six times, with the final air raid occurring in 1941. Many artefacts were moved into an underground tunnel at nearby Aldwych Tube Station to protect them from damage and fires.
Outlander fans seem to have identified the actor playing Uncle Lamb in Blood of My Blood as George Kemp, credited as ‘Quentin Lambert’ in the series. He is expected to appear in the first three episodes, providing more insight into his life before he became Claire’s guardian.
There’s also speculation about whether he, like his brother Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), could be a time traveller.
There are still unanswered questions about the time-travelling abilities of Claire’s mother, Julia Beauchamp (played by Hermione Corfield). There has been speculation that the 20th-century doctor’s parents didn’t die but instead disappeared to a different time zone.
