Michael Fassbender’s new thriller series, The Agency: Central Intelligence, is currently filming Season 2 in London, and now, we’re getting a casting update from production. Season 2 has recruited the services of some genre alums as the series looks to up the stakes in the new installment. According to Deadline, the upcoming season has enlisted the services of Christian Ochoa Lavernia, who was recently seen in Netflix’s The Diplomat, in a new series regular role. Also cast in recurring capacities are Clayne Crawford (Chad Powers), Keanush Tafreshi (V/H/S/99), Medalion Rahimi (NCIS: LA), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland), and Tessa Ferrer (Swagger). The show recently underwent a rebrand from The Agency to The Agency: Central Intelligence, signaling the direction of things in the next chapter.

Season 2 is set to broaden the international espionage scene that was introduced in the first season. With that expansion comes a new lineup of characters ready to complicate Agent Martian’s mission. Ochoa Lavernia will play the role of Grandma (an alias, of course), an undercover operative who teams up with Grandpa (Andrew Brooke), the field agent tasked with tracking Martian in Season 1. Further character details reveal that Crawford portrays Viking, a wanted figure with ties to a dangerous military organization; Rahimi plays Darya, the niece of a powerful Mullah and girlfriend to Hassan Zamani; Jaffrey plays Craig, a data analyst working at the Iran Desk; and Ferrer plays Robyn, a U.S. Air Force nurse stationed in Suffolk, England.

Besides The Diplomat, Ochoa Lavernia has made his mark in genre fare with roles in the sci-fi series Silo and Halo, as well as Guy Ritchie’s action drama The Covenant, making his new role in The Agency: Central Intelligence a natural fit. He’s also set to reunite with Ritchie in the upcoming star-studded espionage thriller In the Grey. Meanwhile, Crawford is best known to Lethal Weapon fans as Martin Riggs, and brings a wealth of crime drama experience from appearances on CSI, Leverage, Criminal Minds, Law & Order, and NCIS: New Orleans. The Agency: Central Intelligence Season 2 will bring back much of the main lineup from Season 1, including Jodie Turner-Smith, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, John Magaro, and Saura Lightfoot-Leon.

What Is ‘The Agency: Central Intelligence’ About?

Inspired by the French drama Le Bureau des Légendes, The Agency: Central Intelligence follows Fassbender’s Martian, a double agent whose undercover duty is abruptly truncated by the bureau. Life in espionage is complicated enough, but Martian’s life becomes even more tangled when his former flame Sami (Turner-Smith) re-enters his life. Torn between duty and emotion, Martian finds himself walking a dangerous line, risking everything to save the woman he still loves. The Season 1 finale laid the foundation for an even more intense spy game in the upcoming season, which will see Martian thrust into uncharted territory as he doubles down on his mission to rescue Sami.
