The Fugitive Doctor’s (Jo Martin) long-awaited Doctor Who audio drama has the mysterious Time Lord incarnation facing her greatest enemies while on the run from Division. Martin made a surprise debut in season 12’s “Fugitive of the Judoon” as a Doctor incarnation pre-dating William Hartnell’s First Doctor who is evading capture by the Time Lords and hiding on Earth. Martin will make her Big Finish audio debut in the concluding chapter of the 60th-anniversary event “Once and Future” in “Coda-The Final Act,” facing off against Jonathan Carley’s young War Doctor.
Audiences will finally get a new glimpse into the Fugitive Doctor’s life on the run as Big Finish announced the release date for Doctor Who: The Fugitive Doctor: Most Wanted. Set for release in January 2025, the first boxset will see the Doctor grapple with bounty hunters on a prison ship in Robert Valentine’s “Fast Times”, Rochana Patel’s “The Legend of Baba Yaga” brings the Time Lord to Russia to face the mythical figure, and Lisa McMullins’s “The Dimension of Lost Things” sens her to a mysterious realm. 1.1 Fast Times by Robert Valentine
When the mysterious Division tries to arrest their equally mysterious agent, the Doctor, she evades capture and heads out in search of answers… but trouble is never far behind.
Captured by bounty hunters and imprisoned in a maximum-security hulk ship, the Doctor is about to learn that there’s no time to stand still when you’re a fugitive. And times are about to get very fast indeed.
1.2 The Legend of Baba Yaga by Rochana Patel
On the run from the Time Lords and in serious need of help, the Doctor heads for 17th-century Russia in search of the legendary witch of Slavic folklore… Baba Yaga.
But while trying to gain assistance from this powerful entity, the Doctor finds herself embroiled in events from the most famous of Baba Yaga’s tales when she tries to help a beautiful young woman called Vasilisa retrieve a burning ember to save her family from the bitter Russian winter.
What is real? What is fantasy? And will the Doctor be able to tell the difference in time?
1.3 The Dimension of Lost Things by Lisa McMullin
Fleeing Cosmo through the Vortex, the TARDIS gets sucked down a temporal plughole, and the Doctor emerges into a weird landscape. Finding other lost souls in the form of mountaineer George Mallory and scavenger Athelia, the Doctor soon stumbles across another, more surprising denizen of this strange dimension – herself!
With Cosmo still in pursuit and memory-stealing winds threatening to wipe her mind for good, the Doctor senses a complex trap in action. But whose trap is it, and how can she possibly escape?
Furthermore, the cover reveals Martin’s Doctor will face early versions of the Daleks.
What We Know About The Fugitive Doctor’s Adventures
Few Adventures Have Fleshed Out The Fugitive Doctor’s Timeline
With the synopsis of Doctor Who: The Fugitive Doctor: Most Wanted stating that Martin’s Doctor is evading Division’s agents, it does confirm that the series will be set after the events depicted in season 13’s “Once, Upon Time”, “Coda-The Final Act” and Jodie Houser’s “Origins” miniseries, the former two covering her assignments from Division and the latter her defection. What is unclear, however, is whether the series will be set before her television debut. While companion Lee Clayton (Neil Stuke) isn’t included, it could be either set before she meets him or after his death in “Fugitive of the Judoon.”
Our Take On The Fugitive Doctor’s Encounter With The Daleks
The Fugitive Doctor Has Never Faced Daleks In Any Medium.
What will stand out to longtime Doctor Who audiences is the presence of the Daleks. Despite crossing paths with Judoon and the Weeping Angels, the incarnation has never faced the Kaled mutations. For the First Doctor, “The Daleks” is the first time the Time Lord faced the Daleks, despite later incarnations being present earlier in their history. The new audio drama seemingly predates this encounter, though she ultimately would use these memories.
It is unclear when in their timeline this encounter occurs, as the model isn’t the original used in “The Daleks” and “The Daleks Invasion of Earth.” Instead, it resembles the travel machines introduced in 1965’s “The Chase.” Still early in their expansion efforts and using Hoverbouts to fly as opposed to their later in-built flight technology, the design was seen as the species first set out to establish their foothold in the universe beyond Skaro. While the Fugitive Doctor may not remember her encounter with them, Martin’s Doctor Who audio drama may establish an earlier meeting between the Time Lord and her greater foes.
