Today on Days of Our Lives, September 28, 2023, Susan’s whereabouts are discovered, Melinda is dismissed and dumped, and Sloan seizes an opportunity. Melinda tries to flatter the new mayor when Paulina pays a visit to her. Paulina cuts her off and reprimands her. Melinda argues that her work has been excellent, but Paulina states that she is dismissing her because “I don’t like you.” She was Sloan’s go-between who made life difficult for her and Chanel. Melinda promises to secure her a prominent conviction—something she will require before the election.
Eric carries his bags into a surprised Sloan’s apartment. She didn’t expect a former priest to be so eager to live in sin. He chuckles, reminding her that after performing an exorcism, cohabitating is small potatoes. Plus, they’ll be married soon. She asks when that’s going to happen.
After finding Edmund Crumb’s address online, Ava and Harris pay him a visit. He curtly answers the door, wearing a robe and pajamas. They apologize for bothering him, but wanted to talk to him about Susan.
In her office, Melinda promises Paulina she’ll convict Li for trying to kill Stefan. She’s been working on lulling him into a false sense of security to get a confession. In fact, she’s having dinner with him tonight. Paulina says she better know what she’s doing, or else she’s out. After Paulina leaves, Melinda frantically calls Li to invite him to dinner.
At Sloan’s, Eric asks what she had in mind for the wedding. Sloan states she won’t be getting married at the Pub because she doesn’t want to smell like chowder. That’s fine with Eric because that’s where he and Nicole were married. Just another reason not to get married there, Sloan quips. But they shouldn’t wait too long because adoption agencies prefer married couples. She asks if Belle will represent them in the adoption.
EJ tells Nicole at the DiMera estate that Wendy says Susan is still alive. Nicole wonders if it’s feasible, but EJ doesn’t think it’s true. EJ feels confident that his mother would have informed him. Nicole responds that it’s possible she is avoiding Ava so thoroughly that she is unable to access a phone. EJ assures her that Susan doesn’t require a phone to get in touch with him. She would have given him a sign if she were still alive. The lights disappear. , “You were saying?”
Li meets Melinda in the Square, where a martini awaits him. Taking his hand, she lays it on thick about how happy she is that they’re seeing each other. Li coolly removes his hand and sips his drink. He plays a recording of her saying, “I am going to nail Li Shin to the wall.”
At the apartment, Eric explains that Belle is having a hard time right now, so they should find another attorney. But he can’t wait to get started on the process. Sloan wonders if this is really what he wants. Of course, it is. He doesn’t need to share DNA with his child. He knows she feels the same way because it was her idea.
As EJ and Nicole light candles in the darkened mansion, Nicole assumes EJ just got his sign. EJ rolls his eyes. He counters that the power going out is too subtle for his mother. As they continue debating it, EJ declares the lights will return any minute. When they do, he takes it as a sign that he was right.
Ava and Harris sit for tea in Edmund’s apartment. The Brit reveals he knows Susan was driven off a cliff. They explain she actually might be alive. A dubious Edmund wonders where Susan’s been all this time if that’s true. They try to explain their crumb-related clue and ask if he’s received any messages from Susan. Edmund wonders why she’d need to send him messages when she’s chained up in the back bedroom. Harris and Ava start to feel dizzy. Edmund reveals they’re drinking poisoned tea. They pass out. “That takes care of that,” he says, sipping from his own cup.
In the Square, Li smugly reveals that after they had sex on her desk last week, he put a bug in the teddy bear he left behind for her. Melinda can’t believe she was so stupid. Same, Li says. He’s surprised he got away with it, but he knew from the beginning she was out to get him. “I can’t believe you played me like this,” Melinda says, wounded. He retorts that they played each other. “You don’t care about me, any more than I care about you,” he says with slight hesitation. He thinks she’s only upset because she lost. She fights back tears as he leaves.
Alone, Melinda texts Sloan that she just got dumped. Paulina sits. “Pack up your office,” the mayor says. “You’re out.” She sips Li’s drink.
After Sloan leaves to check on Melinda, Eric unpacks his things. He studies a photo of himself with Nicole that he finds. Upon learning from Kate that Eric moved, Marlena stops by. He’s sorry he didn’t tell her, but he got busy. She understands, but she’s surprised he and Sloan are this serious. Eric assures her they are. She spots the photo of Nicole and tightly smiles. “I hope it works,” she says. “Me too.”
As Melinda tearfully packs up her office, she picks up the teddy bear. In case Li’s listening, she spits that he sucks as a lover — and not in a good way. She pulls out a gavel and pummels the bear as Sloan arrives. Melinda confides everything that happened with Li and Paulina. Sloan realizes her firing works out for both of them because now Melinda can be her adoption lawyer.
EJ discovers at the mansion that the electricity was off after an automobile struck a utility pole. The sole indication, then, is that drivers in this area should always keep their eyes on the road. Nicole notes that “this neighborhood” is made up of the mansion and the expansive grounds that surround it. EJ dismisses the notion that the power company was “having me on,” saying that only Ava is lying in this situation. So that his mother can finally rest in peace, may she soon rot in hell for all of eternity.
Edmund sets up a twin bed for Ava and Harris at his house. Susan arrives while brushing her teeth and has a chain around her ankle. Edward, Edward, Edward! What the hell are you doing, dude?
Retaliation is planned on Days of Our Lives next, and word of Victor’s will spreads.
