There’s more time traveling to come in Outlander season 8, but the books tease that this will be the last trip through the stones for one character in particular. While Outlander got its start with Claire jumping back in time to the 18th century, several characters with the ability to time travel have since been introduced. Going into season 8, it seems that the general art or science of the stones is becoming clearer, making it easier for travelers to come and go as they please. However, this gets far more complicated when characters have loved ones stuck in one place.
As of the end of Outlander season 7, Brianna and Roger have been reunited in the year 1739 after a stint separated by time and space. In this installment’s final episode, the two considered where they should go next. Brianna, Roger, and their children could head back to the 20th century, but this could be unsafe, considering Rob Cameron is still at large. Or, they could be reunited with Jamie and Claire in 1779. Both noted that it wasn’t a matter of where they belonged but “when.” Outlander season 8 will surely see them come to a decision, but it may be more final than they realize.
Brianna’s Third Child Isn’t Able to Time Travel In The Outlander Books
Brianna Likely Won’t Time Travel For Decades (If Ever)
In the Outlander book Go Tell the Bees That I Am Home, Brianna and Roger settle on returning to Jamie and Claire in Revolutionary War-era North Carolina. Rob Cameron and other factors made the 20th century too dangerous to live in, so they again left behind friends and loved ones to relocate their family to the past. While there, they end up having a third child, David William Ian Fraser MacKenzie (AKA Davy). It’s certainly a happy occasion, but there’s something about Davy that complicates the MacKenzies’ ability to jump through time again in the future.
He is stuck forever in the 18th century and will never see the future in which his entire family was raised.
Little Mandy has the ability to see auras in the Outlander books, and she tells her parents that Davy’s aura is red. This is the same color aura as Jamie, indicating that little Davy is a warrior-type like his grandfather. It also means that Brianna’s youngest son will never be able to time travel. He is stuck forever in the 18th century and will never see the future in which his entire family was raised. Davy not inheriting the time-travel gene means that Brianna herself will be unlikely to travel through time again any time soon, if at all. It would be far too painful to be in a time when her own son is long dead.
Starz’s Outlander May Significantly Change Brianna’s Story
The Books’ Story Won’t Necessarily Make It To the Show
Brianna having another child but learning that he can’t travel through time is bittersweet. However, this book storyline won’t necessarily happen in the Outlander TV Show. Davy was born during the events of Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, which is the ninth out of ten planned Outlander books. Outlander’s upcoming final season will be released before author Diana Gabaldon releases her final novel, so Starz has no choice but to make some big changes. It’s possible that rather than having another child, Brianna will have a different destiny in Outlander season 8. Only time will tell.
