Outlander season 7, part 2, ended with several unsolved mysteries, and there’s one character in particular who can provide nearly all the answers. The finale saw Claire begin to suspect that Fanny Pocock’s mother, Faith, had been her daughter who was stillborn back in Outlander season 2. She shared her suspicion with Jamie in the episode’s dramatic ending, so there is still no definitive confirmation that Claire is correct. The full answer must come in Outlander season 8, but discovering the truth is difficult considering the circumstances.
Faith Fraser was born deceased in Outlander season 2 while Jamie and Claire were in France. Claire held the infant’s body for hours, so there was no reason to think that little Faith hadn’t truly been dead. Since Master Raymond appeared to Claire in a dream in season 7 and apologized for doing something that she would soon understand, it’s implied that this powerful healer brought little Faith back from the dead. Or, perhaps Faith was traded out for a different infant. The possibilities are nearly endless, so Outlander must bring back Master Raymond to clear up the whole story.
Master Raymond Must Return In Outlander Season 8
This Character Is The Key To All The Big Mysteries
The last that Master Raymond had seen in Outlander was when he used his healing powers to cure Claire of her infection following Faith’s birth. He had told his Madonna that they would see one another again, but it seemed as if the Starz series wouldn’t deliver on this. This made Master Raymond’s surprise appearance in Outlander season 7’s finale all the more surprising. His words to Claire were a significant hint about Faith, and, combined with Fanny singing “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” is why she came to the conclusion she did. Still, more answers are needed.
If Master Raymond truly is responsible for Faith being alive, then he is likely the only person who knows what happened. Faith Pocock died long before William ever meant Jane, so she can’t fill in the details of her childhood and upbringing. Little Fanny is unlikely to know much, so she can’t confirm Claire’s suspicions either. Master Raymond is the one who started this whole mess, so he will have to be the one to guide Claire through it all. Of course, this would mean the Outlander character would have to make yet another return. While he is at it, Master Raymond can also lay other mysteries to rest.
Outlander’s Master Raymond Can Give Roger Needed Answers As Well
The Outlander Series Needs A Way To Reveal The Truth About Jerry MacKenzie
Claire isn’t the only one pondering a mystery in Outlander season 7. Roger went on a separate time-traveling adventure, leading him to a surprise meeting with his father in 1739. Roger had believed that his dad, Jerry MacKenzie, had died when his plane went down in World War II. However, the man’s presence in 18th-century Scotland revealed that Jerry had only accidentally slipped through the stones. Roger helped him get back through to his own time. However, the fact he had grown up without Jerry indicates that he failed. Roger ended Outlander season 7 accepting that he may never know what happened.
The Outlander books reveal that Jerry truly made it back to his time but was killed in the London Blitz just after reuniting with his family. Roger had known that a John Doe had saved his life when his mother was killed, but never knew that this unidentified man was actually his father. Even in the book, Roger doesn’t yet know the truth. However, Outlander season 8 could see Master Raymond give Roger some closure.
Though Roger has accepted that he may never know the truth, Master Raymond’s return could reopen this door.
Master Raymond is essentially the ultimate time traveler in Outlander. He is originally from around 500 BC and is believed to be the ancestor of characters like Claire and Geillis. He is also known to guide travelers, pulling strings like a puppet master to ensure they are in the right place at the right time. For this reason, it’s highly likely that Master Raymond knows precisely what happened to Jerry MacKenzie. Though Roger has accepted that he may never know the truth, Master Raymond’s return could reopen this door.
Does Master Raymond Return In The Outlander Books?
Outlander Season 8 Will Have To Forge Its Own Path
Just as in the Outlander TV show, Claire meets Master Raymond in France in author Diana Gabaldon’s books. However, unlike the Starz version, the novels haven’t brought Master Raymond and Claire back together. Gabaldon is working on the tenth and final novel in her series, but Outlander season 8 will arrive long before it releases. This means the two versions of Claire and Jamie’s story are going to be different. Outlander season 7 already demonstrated how with the return of Master Raymond and the big Faith twist. Still, this isn’t to say Master Raymond isn’t important in the books.
While Claire and Master Raymond have yet to cross paths again, Gabaldon’s books have frequently mentioned the character. He is sometimes only subtly referenced by a time-traveling character who has met him. Other times, such as in the spinoff novella The Space Between, Master Raymond’s role is far more overt. It’s difficult to say whether Gabaldon intends to bring this mysterious character back in her tenth Outlander book. Regardless, the TV show has already begun to take its own path. All bets are off, and Master Raymond could easily return to wrap things up in season 8.
