Another week, another enthralling instalment of Paramount Plus crime drama Tulsa King that has left fans with a new cliffhanger at the end of episode 7.

Of course, the series sees Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone in one of his most popular roles in years, playing Dwight Manfredi – also known as The General – the boss of a crime family in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who has recently served a 25-year jail sentence.

This most recent episode saw viewers find out who was responsible for blowing up Dwight’s Navigator and injuring Mark (Michael Beach), but also ended on quite the shocking note that has only thrown up further questions about the fate of some of the characters.

While TV may be awash with shows about organised crime, Tulsa King showrunner Terence Winter has explained how Dwight differs from the small screen’s most famous mobster Tony Soprano (the late James Gandolfini).

He told FandomWire: “I think Dwight, at heart, is a rational, reasonable guy. He’s not a bully. I mean, a lot of mob guys in real life are bulls in china shops.

“I think Dwight, in general, will be respectful to people until he feels that they don’t deserve that, and then the other shoe drops. He’s thoughtful in the sense that he actually thinks about the world.

“He’s had plenty of time in prison to reflect on his choices. And he’s incredibly well read. He has a much broader base of knowledge about the world than most gangsters.”

Tulsa King co-star Neal McDonough sees those traits in Dwight too, which is partly what endears rival businessman Cal Thresher to him after he arrives in town in season 2.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, McDonough explained: “[Cal’s] a country guy who has his codes and such, and he’s going against guys who don’t really have any codes. The only person he finds who has any code is Dwight Manfredi, so my character gravitates much more towards him.”
