As The Acolyte enters its final episodes, a recently resurfaced interview with stars Amandla Stenberg and Manny Jacinto reveals a foreboding tease for the finale. Set long before the events of the Star Wars prequel trilogy in the final days of the High Republic era, the Disney+ series is helmed by Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland. In The Acolyte, the murder of a Jedi master sets off a chain of events that leads to bloodshed, horrific truths being uncovered, and a tragedy that will begin the Jedi Order’s downfall.
Following The Acolyte episode 6, Twitter user @RosaLynaLerman uncovered a promotional interview with Stenberg and Jacinto held with The GATE that teases a darker, unexpected end for the Disney+ series.
Stenberg highlighted the final episode as a moment that they couldn’t wait for audiences to see while praising Headland’s approach to storytelling, while Jacinto says audiences have only seen a fraction of the series’ shocking twists.
The Acolyte’s Finale Will Surely Have Some Massive Twists & Surprises
The Acolyte Has Already Raised Questions About The Truth & Characters’ Allegiances
For those familiar with Headland’s previous work on Russian Doll, the shocking direction that The Acolyte has taken may be no surprise. A time-bending comedy-drama, the Netflix series was not only celebrated for its humor, but for its drama that fully explored what unique scenarios its time-traveling concept could offer. Similar concepts and deep-diving storylines have already been put in place in The Acolyte ever since the series began.
Even within its first episode, The Acolyte has been framed as a story of two halves, with multiple episodes featuring two-word titles describing Osha and Mae’s current states of being, only later switching to a single-worded title when their paths converge. Furthermore, the series is seemingly once more bringing the storytelling structure of Rashomon to the Star Wars universe to explore the twins’ tragic past on Brendok. While not strictly traveling in time and changing the past, the flashback structure has left viewers wary about whether the full truth is being revealed.
With The Acolyte reaching a point in its story where the twins’ goals are tested, there is plenty of intrigue surrounding the finale. Between the seemingly kind offers of The Stranger and the unmasking of Sol’s involvement in the Brendok incident, it is unclear just who is friend or foe to either Mae or Osha as they spend their lives in one another’s shoes. With Stenberg and Jacinto teasing shocks ahead, it seems certain that not everyone is as they seem.
New episodes of The Acolyte are released every Tuesday on Disney+.
