Both NCIS season 22 and NCIS: Origins are not airing new episodes today, and that’s part of CBS’ scheduling plan. The network’s longest-running procedural franchise continues to thrive even after more than 2 decades since the flagship debuted in 2003. None of the original NCIS cast members are still actively part of the ensemble, although some of them continue to be tied to the universe via a couple of spinoffs. Despite that, fans continue to support the new faces that front the mothership, while followers learn more details about Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ earliest days with the NIS in NCIS: Origins.
NCIS has dominated its timeslot, so CBS has kept its block on Monday nights. Ever since the new TV cycle started back in the fall of 2024, both NCIS: Origins and its parent show have released new episodes consecutively, until that trend ended on February 24. While NCIS season 22 continued airing fresh offerings like “Bad Blood” and “Close to Home,” Gibbs’ prequel series halted releasing new episodes without really any explanation. This week, both NCIS season 22 and NCIS: Origins are once again taking a break, but at least there’s official news about when they’ll resume their regular broadcast.
Why There Are No New NCIS Season 22 & NCIS: Origins Episodes Tonight (March 10, 2025)
The NCIS Franchise Is On A Break Again
Once again, CBS did not give out any proper advisory about NCIS and NCIS: Origins not airing new episodes tonight. Instead, the official network schedule for today’s prime time sees Ringo and Friends at the Ryman taking the flagship’s usual 9pm ET slot, while a rerun of “Touchstones” will follow for the prequel’s allotted weekly hour. Those who closely follow TV broadcasts would know that around this time, networks tend to schedule mini-breaks for their shows for a variety of reasons.
These mini-breaks could be to give way to special events such as March Madness (CBS typically airs big games) or simply to give the cast and crew some off-time to finish more episodes. Other times, it’s a deliberate way to ensure that some of its best episodes will coincide with the sweeps period, which takes place from late April to May (also in November, February, and July). The viewership numbers collected during these dates are used by advertisers and networks to decide on the advertising rates for the rest of the year, which is a big part of the business.
When Will New Episodes Of NCIS Season 22 & NCIS: Origins Return
The Wait Is Almost Over
Luckily, there’s now concrete information about when both NCIS season 22 and NCIS: Origins will return with fresh offerings. Per CBS, NCIS season 22, episode 15, “Moonlit” will air on its usual 9pm ET timeslot on March 24, 2025. On the same night, NCIS: Origins episode 14, “To Have and To Hold” will also reclaim its 10pm ET schedule, which means that the procedural block will be back on its usual schedule that week.
Admittedly, it could be frustrating to wait for at most 2 weeks to learn about what’s next for their favorite MCRT and NIS team. However, this is actually the best time for those who are behind the shows to catch up. Those who want to revisit past episodes this year can also do so. Aside from CBS broadcasting NCIS re-runs, all outings are also available to stream on Paramount+.
